Nanyang Technological University’s School of Social Sciences is home to sociologists interested in better understanding societal issues (e.g., inequality, population ageing, climate change) and their implications for those who live within it.
We are looking for a Research Assistant/Associate who will work primarily with Assistant Professor of Sociology Shannon Ang, School of Social Sciences, Nanyang Technological University. This position is especially suited for those looking to pursue graduate studies or oriented towards a future career in social research.
The incumbent will work on a project that seeks to understand factors driving online social participation among older adults, and how their online-offline mix of social activities shape their health outcomes. Using multiple modes of surveys, the project also aims to establish if biases in online non-probability samples of older adults can be reasonably corrected for using information about their social participation. Other members of the interdisciplinary research team include co-investigators from the National University of Singapore and Duke-NUS Medical School.
The Research Assistant/Associate will receive valuable experience in developing, deploying, and analyzing surveys and focus groups. There will be opportunities to work on publications together, as well as to contribute to other exciting projects related to ageing and health.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate the research project and ensure it runs smoothly
Perform other general research duties where required (e.g., IRB protocol, data requests)
Engage in academic activities (prepare manuscripts, reports, present findings at conferences)
Conduct statistical analyses (including data cleaning, data visualization) of survey data
Work with local collaborators
Job Requirements
Bachelor/Master Degree in Sociology, Psychology, Economics or related field
A willingness to learn quantitative research methods
Good English writing and communication skills
Experience in research in the field of older adult health is preferred, but is not necessary
Proficiency in a statistical package (e.g., Stata, R, or Python) preferred, but is not necessary
We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
