Job Description

The Department of History at the National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applications for one fully funded, two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship, ideally beginning on 1 August 2024. The successful applicant will become part of a Singapore Ministry of Education-funded project on cultural and intellectual ties between Singapore and the wider Chinese-speaking world, particularly China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, from the 1970s to the 1990s. The project is led by Assistant Professor Kung Chien Wen and also includes two MA (Research) students.

Scope and Responsibilities

Working with the PI, the Postdoc will use their fellowship to revise their dissertation and, ideally, publish a journal article. They will also help the organize a workshop on Sinophone / transnational Chinese history in the mid-late 20th century. There are no teaching responsibilities.

Qualifications 

  • Possess, or have nearly completed, a Ph.D. in History or a related discipline such as Literary and Cultural Studies or Anthropology.  
  • Work on some aspect of “China” in the world or Sinophone history / studies, broadly defined, from the mid-20th century to the mid-1990s. Persons whose principal interests lie in Taiwan, Hong Kong, or the Chinese overseas are encouraged to apply.
