Job Description

Researchers at NUS IORA are committed to reducing food waste by harnessing the potential of image and spectral data to predict the shelf life of fresh produce, as well as conducting essential lab experiments to support our study. We are currently seeking a full-time Junior Data Scientist (Project Manager) to become a valuable part of our team.

 

As a Junior Data Scientist (Project Manager) at NUS IORA, you will work closely with a team of data scientists, researchers, and the Principal Investigator. Your responsibilities include:

• Taking full end-to-end control and responsibility for the project, including setting milestones, meeting deadlines, defining next steps, preparing reports and papers, and more.

• Providing leadership and supervision to the data science team, guiding their work effectively.

• Conducting your own analytical work, which may involve predicting the remaining shelf life of fresh produce using image and spectral data.

• Designing lab experiments related to fresh produce and leading the lab team during experimentation.

• Presenting analysis results to the Principal Investigator, and preparing manuscripts and reports based on the study's results.

• Collaborating with industry partners in the fresh produce wholesale sector who work with us on the project.

• Handling administrative duties related to the project, including equipment or instrument procurement for experiments, and the hiring of lab assistants, etc.


Requirements

• Undergraduate or graduate degree in a quantitative or scientific field, preferably in a STEM background.

• Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in statistical analysis and machine learning, including image recognition

• A minimum of 1-3 years of experience managing teams involved in analytical work or data science projects.

• A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in designing lab experiments from scratch, and the ability to lead a lab team during experimentation.

• Proficiency in scripting and performing data analysis in Python.

Preferably, candidates should also have experience in:

• Spectral analysis and interpretation.

• Fresh produce wholesale/retail industry.
