Job Description

AI Singapore (AISG) is the national AI programme launched by the National Research Foundation (NRF) to anchor deep national capabilities in Artificial Intelligence (AI). 

 

The programme office is hosted by the National University of Singapore (NUS) and brings together all Singapore-based research institutions and the vibrant ecosystem of AI start-ups and companies developing AI products to perform use-inspired research, grow the knowledge, create the tools, and develop the talent to power Singapore's AI efforts.

 

Candidates, especially seniors, will be expected to provide technical leadership, engage stakeholders independently, mentor junior engineers and apprentices, and contribute ideas to improve the system.

 

As an InfraOps Engineer (DC Ops), you will manage and optimise AISG's data centre infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, efficiency, and security. You'll oversee DC operations, monitor power usage, liaise with vendors and partners, and manage installations and UATs. Your duties include managing change processes, vendors, maintenance programs, and user requests. You will collaborate with internal teams and vendors to improve data centre operations, participate in infrastructure projects, drive continuous improvement, and develop documentation and best practices. Your expertise in data centre management will be crucial in providing a reliable, robust, and efficient infrastructure foundation necessary to support AISG's cutting-edge AI development, deployment efforts, solutions, and capability-building programmes.


Duties & Responsibilities
The InfraOps Engineer (DC Ops) is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating activities related to the day-to-day support of the data centre facility and IT infrastructure. This includes managing vendor relationships, addressing user needs, and ensuring the high availability and performance of data centre systems.

 

  • Oversee the operation of the data centre, including environmental controls, power, and physical security
  • Monitor and optimise Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and overall power consumption within the data centre, ensuring the efficiency of servers and racks meets target power consumption levels
  • Liaise with upstream network providers for the provisioning of network links and connectivity to support the data centre's infrastructure and services
  • Manage systems deliveries and installations within the data centre, overseeing and conducting User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to ensure the proper functioning and performance of new infrastructure components
  • Manage and support change and release processes for physical environments
  • Provide cost and design proposals and liaise with vendors
  • Establish physical infrastructure standards and maintenance programs
  • Manage procurement and vendor contracts related to the data centre
  • Coach and lead data centre operations staff
  • Ensure effective vendor management processes are in place
  • Facilitate and maintain relationships between the organisation and vendors/partners
  • Negotiate contracts and create standards for vendors
  • Handle user requests and issues related to the data centre
  • Collaborate with internal teams (DC Engineering, Logistics, Security, etc.) to improve data centre operations
  • Participate in and lead data centre projects, including facility buildouts and upgrades
  • Develop documentation, procedures and best practices for data centre operations
  • Perform capacity planning to ensure the data centre can meet current and future needs

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in data centre operations. 
  • Expert knowledge of data centre infrastructure, including servers, storage, networking, power and cooling.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and contracts.
  • Strong project management and leadership skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. 
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with ITIL and other IT service management frameworks.
