The Office of Patient Engagement (OPEN) is a new unit to deepen LKCMedicine’s patient & public partnerships in medical research and education. You will head the team to embed Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) into the School’s programmes and foster partnerships with patient advocates, patient and community organisations and other stakeholders in the patient engagement eco-system.

As the Deputy Director, Office of Patient Engagement, you will lead the team to grow patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) for medical research and education.  You will also be developing strong partnerships with patients, patient and community organisations, researcher and educators, and build capability and capacity building programmes for PPIE.

To bring patient voices into medical research and education, we are looking for a dynamic individual who has strong expertise and experience in patient and public involvement and engagement in healthcare, possess a strategic mindset and able to lead the development and implementation of the PPIE initiative in the School.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and lead the Office of Patient Engagement (OPEN). This will include building the School’s PPIE framework, systems and processes for sustainable PPIE, building and strengthening relationships with internal stakeholders (Research Faculty and Key Programmatic Leads) and external stakeholders (Patient Groups and Advocates) to achieve LKCMedicine’s strategic goals of patient involvement and empowerment in research.

  • Drive the implementation of patient engagement through the inclusion of patient voices in research and education. A structured and practical implementation programme should be developed that is accessible to all research and education stakeholders in the School.

  • Establish relationships with patient organisations and patient advocacy groups, as well as external academic, professional and clinical institutions, to ensure best practices and collaboration on patient engagement in research.

  • Set up of LKCMedicine Patient-Public Panel, comprising of patient and community advocates to serve as a School strategic resource for development of patient-focused research and medical education.

  • Set-up domain and/or disease-specific patient panels to integrate patient engagement into the School’s five research programmes (Neuroscience and Mental Health; Nutrition, Metabolism and Health; Population and Global Health; Respiratory and Infectious Diseases; Skin Disease and Wound Repair) and three core themes (Data Science; Developmental Biology and Regenerative Medicine; Microbiome Medicine). This will include establishing a patient and public panel (including family engagement) through specific initiatives to permit critical patient insights to inform the development of new research initiatives.

  • Provide counsel, guidance and collaborate on appropriate patient engagement activities across all functions of the medical school as required and appropriate.

  • Advance patient engagement in Singapore and Asia through capability building programmes for patients and researchers/clinicians in medical research and education.

Requirements

  • Degree from an accredited university

  • Possess at least 10 years of relevant working experience

  • Experience in patient and public involvement and engagement and in working with patient organisations.

  • Knowledgeable and familiar with the Singapore healthcare landscape and the patient engagement eco-system

  • Understands the patient engagement needs of research and education in a medical school

  • Strong leadership and management skills

  • Strategic thinker with strong on-ground knowledge

  • Ability to build and maintain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills

  • Self starter, resourceful and possess strong initiative to drive change
