Job Description

NUS Centre for Future-ready Graduates (CFG) adopts a multipronged, student-centric approach to help them make sense of their strengths, refine their skills and demonstrate their value to employers. Beginning with the end in mind, CFG has developed a four-year roadmap to help enhance the employability of our graduates through a repertoire of skills programmes and industry focused experiential opportunities. This bolsters students’ assurance to grow deeper, discover their passion and explore multiple pathways.
 
Serving the entire spectrum of students from undergraduates to post-graduates, CFG offers more than 15 unit-bearing courses in collaboration with academic and industry partners. About the Career Advisor Role:
This is a challenging, purposeful, and rewarding role for one to join the College of Design and Engineering (CDE) team, on a full-time basis. We are looking for a team member, who believes in collaborative work - one who genuinely enjoys working with CDE undergraduates and will take the time to listen, understand, motivate, and support their career aspirations. Duties & Responsibilities:

•    Advise CDE’s interdisciplinary undergraduates and recent graduates on identifying careers that match their interests, values and skills, and develop action plans to navigate the job market and enhance their employability
•    Conduct 1-1 and group coaching for students and recent alumni on career planning, development of job search strategies, resume and cover letter review, and interview preparation
•    Organise and facilitate workshops for CDE undergraduates on essential career preparation and life skills (e.g. resume/cover letter writing, interview and networking skills, communication skills at the workplace, personal branding, etc.) and career events along industry themes
•    Develop and implement workshops and experiential learning programmes to equip students with the relevant career and workplace competencies, and life skills
•    Develop initiatives to promote careers services and foster student engagement
•    Partner with the Industry Relations team to deepen engagement with employers and to understand employers’ hiring requirements and priorities to identify and refer students for internships and other opportunities 
•    Collaborate with the CFG team and provide support for key activities and events throughout the academic year such Career Fairs, and advocate CFG services and platforms
•    Partner faculty and academics for specific initiatives such as career preparation workshops/industry talks targeted at students of specific majors to improve their career readiness and employability 


Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering would be a distinct advantage), with 5-8 years of working experience, ideally in one or more of the following fields: aerospace, automotive/transport, defence, energy systems, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, manufacturing or public service.
•    Good industry knowledge of the latest transformation, emerging opportunities and hiring trends 
•    Prior experience in coaching/mentoring and familiarity with the use of personality profiling and career assessment tools is an advantage
•    Strong written and verbal persuasive communication skills
•    Excellent organisational and presentation skills with strong ability to build communities, develop relationships and establish networks
•    Resilient and adaptable with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with partners and colleagues to manage change and achieve goals
•    IT savvy, proficient in computer software (e.g. Excel Pivot Table) for research and analysis purposes
