ACADEMIC FACULTY APPOINTMENT:  Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine

An Associate/Assistant Professor of Health Economics at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine is expected to contribute to the development of research and teaching at the School. He/she is expected to undertake high quality internationally leading research in the broad area of Health Economics, including, but not limited to, the impact of financial incentives and/or socioeconomic status on health behavior and/or mental health, within the Data Science Research Programme, in line with the overarching research strategy of Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, in addition to any other duties as assigned by the Vice Dean, Research and Dean.

Key Responsibilities

Job Purpose:

  • The appointee is expected to contribute to integration of the science relating to the broad area of Health Economics into the MBBS curriculum and to ensure the delivery of excellence in these areas, including the team-based delivery of the curriculum.

  • The appointee is also expected to undertake high quality research in the broad area of Health Economics in line with the research strategy of the School and in conjunction with other recent appointments, obtain research funding and supervise research staff and students.

  • The appointee is expected to undertake teaching and educational responsibilities for the training of medical students and postgraduate research students. Teaching methods will include extensive use of team-based learning and e-learning.

Primary Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Contribute to, support and develop teaching and educational activity at undergraduate level and supervise undergraduate students.

  • Contribute to, support and develop teaching and educational activity at graduate level and supervise graduate students.

  • Undertake high quality research activities by sustaining a personal research plan, developing innovative research proposals and funding bids, managing and undertaking research activities, publishing in international peer reviewed journals, and patenting research outcomes where applicable, reviewing manuscripts and grant applications when appropriate.

  • Actively contribute to setting and reaching strategic objectives in the LKCMedicine Data Science Research Programme.

  • Seek competitive grant and collaborative industry funding to develop a sustainable research programme.

  • Develop and support research projects (including interdisciplinary) with other faculty in the field of Data Science Research Programme at LKCMedicine and across the wider NTU community.

  • Supervise and mentor junior faculty members and research staff.

  • Participate in academic committees and other administrative requirements as appropriate.

Person Specification

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:

  • MBBS/MD and/or PhD degree(s)
  • Relevant postdoctoral or clinical experience
  • Significant experience and outstanding, record of research and teaching with a high level of scientific achievement, productivity and impact in the field of Data Science Research and Health Economics

Management and Teamwork:

  • Ability to lead and work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to work co-operatively with medical and non-medical staff
  • Ability to supervise research staff and students

Communicating and Influencing:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and students
  • Ability to motivate others
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to work in a team

Desirable attributes:

  • Experience and desire to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop teams and to create networks.
  • Fully conversant with evidence-based and patient-centred approach to modern medicine and the use of new technologies in education, research, and patient care.
  • Understanding of the academic and administrative needs of internationally recognised universities.
  • Ability to work in and develop teams and to create networks at both a national and international level.
  • Track record of having supervised graduate students to successful completion of PhDs.

Time Commitment:

The level of effort for this appointment is at 1.0 full time equivalent (FTE) employment.
