Job Description

Career Coaching

  • Actively reach out to the students to take the first step in seeking career coaching
  • Communicate with the students sufficiently, either in a 1-on-1 setting, small or big group setting to understand their career goals and aspirations
  • Provide students with relevant industry knowledge and employment information that will empower them to make realistic career choices and implementation plans
  • Work with students to identify their strengths and teach them to use them effectively
  • Help students discover their personal barriers and career gaps through formal and informal career assessments, and point them to resources that can help them close the gaps
  • Direct students to develop a job search strategy and inspire them to build a professional network
  • Guide students through all internal and external career resources (in-house platforms and external platforms subscribed by NUS), and motivate students to engage in self-directed online workshops and materials to enhance knowledge at their own pace


Career Development Curriculum/Training Programme/Workshops

  • Take ownership of the Career Development Programme for the programme/s assigned with the aim to improve student preparedness for job search activities or sharpen career skills in the workplace
  • Initiate discussions with Programme Offices, Academic Directors and other stakeholders in designing the provision of all career related offerings such as career workshops, learning platforms and other resources to enhance students’ knowledge, career readiness and career development
  • Identify trainers to design and deliver curated workshops for programme/s assigned, evaluate effectiveness and participation rate with an aim to improve on them
  • Plan workshop timetable for programme/s assigned, in partnership with Programme Offices, taking into consideration the industry hiring dates, trainers’ availability and students’ academic timetable

 

Stakeholders Engagement/Communication

  • Partner internal stakeholders (Programme Offices, Academic Directors and colleagues within BIZCareers) to understand the strength and uniqueness of each intake of incoming students, the current industry trends and needs, and required job assessment skills so as to prepare our students competitively for internship and job search
  • Drive towards a targeted student participation rate in career coaching sessions and career workshops by proactively promoting the activities through numerous channels of communication including physical touch-points, and by identifying and reducing barriers
  • Achieve and maintain high level of student satisfaction in career coaching and workshops
  • Initiate and foster long-term relationship with every intake of students through formal and informal, 1-on-1 or group engagements or touch-points such as career coaching sessions, career workshops or other activities


Internship and Job Placement

  • Monitor the progress of students’ internship and job search
  • Take ownership of the graduate employment survey response rate of the programme/s assigned
  • Review and approve credit-bearing internships as required

Qualifications
  • A good university degree with a minimum of 8 - 10 years of relevant work experience
  • Formal coaching certification is a plus
  • Must be a mentor who is passionate and eager to support students’ in their career aspirations
  • Possess the ability to discover people’s strengths and weaknesses, and guide them in developing a realistic career plan and job search strategy
  • A nurturing communicator and active listener who can engage effectively on a 1-on-1 setting and also able to deliver stand-up presentation to a crowd
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in career counselling/coaching, recruiting, job placement, training or learning and development area
  • Highly energetic, motivated and positive individual with strong organisational and interpersonal skills and able to work independently and as a team
  • Meticulous, good at task execution and be able to deliver under tight time pressures
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
