Job Description

The Student Accessibility Unit (SAU) within the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) aims to create an inclusive and supportive University learning environment and culture for NUS students with diverse range of disabilities and access needs.

 

Effective and holistic support of students' accessibility needs throughout their educational journey in NUS is a key pilliar of SAU's role within OSA and the University. A close and direct relationship with students, peer advocates and stakeholders to ensure access needs are met forms a core function of the direct work.

 

Job Purpose :

This role will also focus on co-creating and coordinating structured publicity efforts and capacity building initiatives and programmes that raises awareness of SAU's support and outreach to both the students and staff community.

 

In addition to supporting the implementation needs of SAU collaborations and projects centred on meeting the broader aim of an accessible and inclusive campus environment, there will be a specific focus to work closely with peer student leaders from NUS Enablers and other student bodies, to develop and coordinate their training and capacity needs to enhance their capacity for meaningful and responsible peer-led outreach.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Initiate transition support engagements, case discussions and student advisory with students and stakeholders to assess areas of needs where support may be required.
  • Coordinate and monitor student's learning accessibility needs with faculties and stakeholders, specifically, faculty support managers, through regular engagements.
  • Close liaison with peers, internal and external stakeholders to create a holistic support system aligned with meeting students' diverse needs.
  • Plan and organise disability outreach and programmes.
  • Implement publicity efforts by amplifying communications with OSA communications.
  • Develop and coordinate capacity building programmes and resources for students with diabilities
  • Coordinate peer support and training to develop capabilities and increase peer-led outreach.
  • Coordinate and facilitate assessments for accomodations
  • Coordinate access services with peer assistants
  • Work on ad-hoc projects related to accessibility and inclusion that supports the unit's vision
  •  


    Qualifications
  • Relevant experience and background in psychology, sociology or social work would be helpful.
  • Experience in case management and working with youths from Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL).
  • Attuned with the diverse needs of students with different disabilities
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant working experience
  • Adept at working with multiple stakeholders to coordinate case discussions and support for students.
  • Familiar with agencies in the social service sector which provides support services for students with various disabilities.
  • Attention to details, especially in understanding nuances of the range of accessibility needs.
  • Approach communication with students and stakeholders sensitively
  • Values diversity and inclusion
