Offer Description

A tender is hereby opened for the award of one research fellowship under the service contract (CV 18/2024) on the suitability of using commercially available thermo-moldable bioplastics in the development of sustainable tableware, under the following conditions:

1. Scientific Area: Biotechnology, Nanosciences and Nanotechnology

2. Financing Source:Own founds

3. Admission Requirements: Masters in Biotechnology or a related area, enrolled in the doctoral program in Nanosciences and Nanotechnology, with a master's degree classification equal to or greater than 17 points and with experience in R&D projects in co-promotion with industry. In addition, candidates should have the following preferential requirements: experience in the processing and physical-chemical, mechanical and thermal characterization of (bionano)polymeric materials and in the development of functional coatings with a view to increasing the resistance of surfaces to chemical substances, pH, temperature, abrasion, scratching and ultraviolet radiation.

Proof of registration must be provided by the time the contract is signed, and candidates may attach a sworn statement that they meet the requirements to register for a doctorate.

If the qualification has been conferred by a foreign higher education institution it must be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution, under the terms of the provisions of article 25 of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16th, which approves the legal regime of recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of Higher Education, attributed by foreign higher education institutions, and of paragraph e) of no. 2 of article 4 of Decree-Law no. 60/2018, of August 3rd, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the date of the hiring act .

4. Eligibility: Eligible candidates are those who comply with Article 2(1)(a) of the Research Fellow Statute, as amended by Decree-Law 123/2019 of August 28, and with Article 9 of the University of Aveiro's Scientific Research Scholarship Regulations.

5. Work plan: The scholarship holder will be involved in studying the thermo-molding of commercially available (bionano)plastics and their mechanical resistance to humidity, pH and temperature conditions.

6. Applicable legislation and regulations: Research Fellow Statute, as amended by Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of August 28th; Scientific Research Grant Regulation of the University of Aveiro, Regulation No. 292/2020, published in Diário da República No. 61, Series II, of March 26th ; Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16th (Legal regime of recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of higher education awarded by foreign higher education institutions).

7. Workplace: The work will be carried out at CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials and at the Department of Materials and Ceramic Engineering (DeMaC) of the University of Aveiro, under the scientific supervision of Doctor Idalina Gonçalves and Doctor Paula Ferreira.

8. Duration of the grant(s): The grant duration will be 6 (six) months, starting in June of 2024.

9. Amount of monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the grant corresponds to €1,259.64, according to the table of values of monthly maintenance allowances, set out in Appendix III of the Scientific Research Grant Regulation of the University of Aveiro, subject to any updates that may occur and are applicable. The fellow may also be reimbursed for the amount corresponding to the Voluntary Social Security, in case of adherence to this plan.

10. Selection methods: The selection method to be used will be Curricular Assessment, with the option of an interview.

The Curricular Assessment, weighted from 0 to 20, will be carried out in accordance with the following criteria and weightings:

- Adequacy and merit of the candidate's curriculum, taking into account the area in which the competition is open (60%);

                - Participation in research and technological development projects involving companies (30%)

- Number of scientific communications and publications (10%).

The selection method Interview may be used if the jury does not consider itself duly qualified to decide on the basis of the Curricular Assessment. In the event of an interview, the final assessment will be weighted 60% by the curricular assessment and 40% by the interview.

The jury reserves the right not to award the grant if none of the candidates achieves the minimum final classification of 10 points on a scale of 0-20 points.

11. Composition of the Selection Jury: Chair of the selection jury: Doctor Idalina José Monteiro Gonçalves; Permanent members: Doctor Paula Celeste da Silva Ferreira and Doctor Cláudia Sofia Cordeiro Nunes; alternate members: Doctor José Carlos Martins de Almeida and Doctor Maxim Ivanov.

12. Deadline for applications and how to submit applications: The call is open from 13/05/2024 a 24/05/2024, and only applications submitted within the deadline will be admitted.

Applications must be formalized by sending a letter of application accompanied by the following documents: certificate of qualifications, Curriculum Vitae, declaration of honor, application form, motivation letter, and other supporting documents deemed relevant. They shall also indicate the e-mail address to which by such indication they accept to be notified for all purposes within this procedure.

13. Form of publication/notification of results: The results of the evaluation shall be made public no later than 60 working days after the closing date for submission of applications and shall be notified to the applicants. The candidates are informed, in a prior hearing, under the terms established in the Code of Administrative Procedure, of the probable meaning of the final decision, and may, within 10 working days of this notification, express their opinion on this decision. The final results may be appealed to the Rector, to be submitted within 10 working days from the respective notification.

14. Tender duration: The final ranking list of candidates will be valid until 6 (six) months for the purpose of constituting a reserve list for selection.
