The Egas Moniz Center for Interdisciplinary Research (CiiEM) is inviting applications for the recruitment of two PhD researchers on an uncertain-term contract. Hiring will be governed by the provisions of Decree-Law no. 57/2016, of 29 August, which approves the Legal Framework for Scientific Employment, as amended by Law no. 57/2017, of 19 July, by Regulatory Decree no. 11-A/2017, of 29 December and by the Labor Code in its current wording.

FUNCTIONS TO BE PERFORMED: R&D activities within the scope of CiiEM - Egas Moniz Center for Interdisciplinary Research, under reference UIDP/04585/2020 and funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology under the Multiannual Funding of R&D Units 2020-2024. The researchers to be hired will carry out research duties and support the implementation, dissemination and management of projects.

1.         The Board of Directors of the CiiEM - Egas Moniz Center for Interdisciplinary Research has decided to open an international selection competition for two doctoral positions to carry out scientific research activities, under an indefinite term employment contract under the Labor Code, with a maximum duration of 4 years, based on the performance of a specific, precisely defined and non-durable service, under the provisions of article 6(1)(b) and (3) of Decree-Law no. 57/2016 of 29 August, as revised by Law no. 57/2017 of 19 July. b) and 3 of Decree-Law no. 57/2016 of 29 August, revised by Law no. 57/2017 of 19 July, and the provisions of the Labor Code in its current wording. The activities to be carried out will be integrated into CiiEM's work plan, under the Multiannual Financing Program Contract for R&D Units 2020-2024, with reference UIDP/04585/2020, signed by the Foundation for Science and Technology and CiiEM.

The contract will be in force for the duration of the project and as long as there is budget availability.

2.          Applicable legislation

Decree-Law no. 57/2016, of August 29, amended by Law no. 57/2017, of July 19 (Legal Regime for Scientific Employment - RJEC); Regulatory Decree no. 11-A/2017, of December 29; Labor Code, approved by Law no. 7/2009, of February 12, in its current wording.

3.         The gross monthly salary to be awarded is 2,294.95 euros, corresponding to level 33 of the Single Remuneration Table, approved by Ministerial Order no. 1553-C/2008, of December 31 and updated under the terms of Decree-Law no. 10-B/2020, of 20 March.

4.         The workplace is located at CiiEM, Egas Moniz-Cooperativa de Ensino Superior, CRL, Monte de Caparica.

5.         With regard to the requirements for admission on absolute merit, candidates for this position, whether they are nationals, foreigners or stateless persons, must fulfil the following requirements:

a) Hold a doctoral degree and a scientific and professional curriculum vitae showing a profile appropriate for the activity to be carried out. If a doctoral degree has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of 16 August, and any formalities set out therein must be fulfilled by the time of hiring.

b) The doctoral degree mentioned in the previous paragraph must have been obtained 5 years ago or less, counting from the defense of the doctoral thesis to the closing date of the application submission period.

c) Have relevant research experience compatible with the category of scientific research career to which the defined remuneration level corresponds.

d) Have relevant research activity within the scientific areas of CiiEM, namely in the area of Clinical Research.

e) Demonstrate fluency in written and spoken English.

The assessment of scientific and curricular careers is based on the:

a) Relevance, quality and timeliness of scientific production and research activity;

b) Quality and relevance of research activities, including applied or practice-based research;

c) Participation in research projects, as PI, co-PI and/or as a member of national and international research teams;

d) Scientific dissemination and publicity activities.

6.         Evaluation methods

Curriculum evaluation (90%) and Interview (10%).

Criteria and weighting factors for the curricular assessment:

a) Scientific publications: books, book chapters and articles in indexed national and international scientific journals - 40%.

b) Research activity, including applied or practice-based research - 20%.

c) Coordination and participation in scientific research projects at national and international level, as well as participation in international networks and partnerships - 10%.

d) Scientific dissemination activities - 10%

e) Motivation letter and recommendation letters - 10%

f) Interview - 10%

The grading system for candidates is expressed on a scale of 0 to 100 points.

7.         The composition of the jury for the competition is as follows:

8.         The process of selecting candidates by the jury is carried out through a reasoned roll-call vote, utilizing the criteria that have been adopted and publicized. Abstentions are not allowed during this vote. In the event of a tie, the Chairman of the Jury has the authority to cast the deciding vote. After the application of the selection criteria, the jury will formulate a ranked list of successful candidates, including their respective rankings.

9.         Formal minutes are drawn up of the jury meetings, which contain a summary of what took place at the meetings, as well as the votes cast by each member and their respective reasons, and are made available to candidates on request.

10.     The jury has the right not to select candidates who do not have the right quality and profiles in terms of absolute and relative merit.

11.     The selection board's final decision is approved by the institution's top manager, who is also responsible for deciding whether to hire the candidate.

12.     Formalization of applications:

12.1. Applications are formalized by submitting a letter of motivation, addressed to the Chairman of the Selection Board, outlining the reasons for applying for the position, including the application's identification, full name, number and expiry date of identification document, tax identification number, date of birth, address, telephone number and email address.

12.2. The application must be accompanied by the following elements:

a) Copy of doctoral certificate or diploma;

b) A detailed and structured curriculum vitae, including a copy of the work that the candidate considers most relevant and that allows them to assess the relevance and quality of their application;

c) A brief description of the most important scientific activities;

d) 2 letters of recommendation.

12.3.        Applicants must submit their applications and supporting documents in digital format, in PDF, to [email protected] . The subject of the message must include the full reference of the position "CiiEM-Investigador Doutorado-UIDP/04585/2020".

13.     Applications must be submitted by 23:59 (local time) on April 22, 2024, the 10th working day after the publication of this notice on the EURAXESS portal and CiiEM website.

14.     Candidates who formalize their application incorrectly or who do not prove that they meet the requirements of this competition will not be admitted to the competition. The selection board has the right to ask any candidate, in case of doubt, to produce supporting documents.

15.     False statements made by candidates will be penalized in accordance with the law.

16.     The jury's final decisions will be made no later than 90 days after the deadline for submitting applications. All applicants will be notified of the final selection decision by e-mail with receipt of delivery of the notification.

17.     Prior Hearing and Deadline for Final Decision: once notified, candidates have 10 working days to give their opinion.
