Research assistant position in the scientific project Deep optimized generation for antimicrobial peptide discovery (DOG-AMP) financed by the European Commission (grant agreement no 101125506)

The ERC project Deep optimized generation for antimicrobial peptide discovery (DOG-AMP), led by prof. Ewa Szczurek, is offering research assistant position in the Institute of Informatics at the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics of the University of Warsaw.

Terms of employment
Selected candidate will be employed on research assistant position (pol. asystent w grupie pracowników badawczych) on 80% working time. The expected starting date is around the 1st of October 2024, up to an agreement between the candidate and the principal investigator. The offered salary combined (basic salary approx. PLN 5100 gross/month plus project bonus) is around PLN 9100 gross/month). The position comes with a travel budget. The candidate is encouraged to additionally apply to the doctoral school for an additional stipend on top of the salary.

Description of the project
A particular focus of the offered PhD positions will be on novel artificial intelligence methods for antimicrobial peptide design. The projects involve strong collaborations with international experimental partners. The PhD students will receive supervision in both AI and peptide design expertise and will be embedded in a highly supportive, communicative team. The position is funded by the prestigious ERC Consolidator grant DOG-AMP.

Requirements
We expect that candidates at the moment of employment hold an MSc degree in either mathematics or computer science and have an excellent background in both of them. Good command of English is required. A good understanding of fundamental theoretical concepts in generative AI or probabilistic models or Bayesian statistics is needed, as well as strong programming skills combined with a mathematical mindset. The candidate should have interest in addressing clinical and biomedical
questions.

· presents an overview of the background and scientific achievements of the candidate;
· lists all the candidate’s research works (including not yet published manuscripts) if any,
· gives a list of two experienced researchers that may serve as references for the candidate.

Applications that do not satisfy the above requirements or are submitted after the deadline will not be considered for the position.
The applications will be evaluated by a selection committee appointed by the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics, and Mechanics, University of Warsaw. The committee may invite the candidate to a meeting, which will be conducted remotely. The results of the competition will be sent to candidates electronically on 25th of June, 2024 at the latest. The competition is the first stage of the recruitment process as described in the Statute of the University of Warsaw, the recommendation by the
selection committee being a basis for its subsequent stages.
