Offer Description

The aim of the project is to discover the rules governing the formation of supramolecular structures (intermediate compounds, cocrystals/hydrates) in two-component systems containing simple ionic liquids (ILs) and α,ω-diols or water based on halide anions. The existence of such structures is clearly indicated by preliminary studies of selected isoquinoline ILs with terminal diols with chain lengths from 6 to 12 carbon atoms. Systematic research planned as part of this project includes synthesizing aliphatic and aromatic amine halides, determining their tendency to form such structures and their detailed physicochemical characterization. The research will be preceded by a literature analysis of works on the physico-chemical properties of ammonium halides; with particular emphasis on understanding the impact of the presence of water in these materials - a factor that has a significant impact on key thermodynamic properties such as melting point.
