Candidate for the position of Associate Professor (Polish: “Adiunkt”) and Head of the Department of Pharmacokinetics and Drug Metabolism, Maj Institute of Pharmacology Polish Academy of Sciences (further called Institute or IP PAS).

KEYWORDS: pharmacokinetics, metabolism, liver, brain, cytochrome P450, neuroendocrine balance, brain pathology, psychotropic drugs

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Development of research projects aligned with the Department’s profile, including
 preparation of funding applications and establishment of research collaborations;

Research skill training for junior scientists and students;

Planning, managing and conducting research;

Implementation of good practices in research data management;

Acting as the Department’s representative;

Management and oversight of the Department’s research and training activities, including assignment of research tasks to Department’s members and monitoring of work obligations;

Drafting applications to the Institute’s Director for hiring employees, promotions and awards at the Department;

Compiling reports on the Department’s activities;

Strict adherence to the Polish Academy of Sciences ethical guidelines;

Compliance with internal regulations of the Maj Institute of Pharmacology Polish Academy of Sciences.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Full-time employment contract;

Acting as Head of the Department until February 28, 2026;

Skills/Qualifications

A candidate for the position of an Associate Professor (Polish: “Adiunkt”) and Head of the Department of Pharmacokinetics and Drug Metabolism, Maj Institute of Pharmacology Polish Academy of Sciences, must fulfil the following requirements:

Professor’s or habilitated doctor degree (Polish: tytuł profesora lub stopień doktora
habilitowanego) or equivalent in the field of medical sciences or pharmaceutical sciences or a related discipline;

Extensive experience in research on pharmacokinetics and psychotropic drug metabolism, the role of cytochrome P450-dependent metabolism in psychopharmacology and drug therapy evidenced in outstanding scientific publication record in this areas;

Experience in research on the brain’s cytochrome P450 aligned with the Institute’s research priorities and focused on central nervous system pharmacology;

Outstanding research track, at least 3 original research papers with first or corresponding authorship written and published after the defense of the PhD thesis and not related to doctoral thesis;

Experience in mentoring junior researchers and students;

Established track of successful grant applications with positive final evaluations;

Experience in development of international collaborations;

Impeccable character;

Perfect command of spoken and written English.

ADDITIONAL ADVANTAGE WOULD BE:

Proficiency in Polish.

The selection process will first evaluate formal requirements and then proceed to assess the candidates’ capabilities.  The evaluation committee may decide to invite a candidate for an interview.
