Offer Description

Job Vacancy is announced by the Director of Mossakowski Medical Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences for the position of assistant professor in the Laboratory of Protein Engineering.

Current research program of the Laboratory of Protein Engineering:

• isolation and characterization of bacterial proteins,
• protein engineering,
• assessment of the activity of peptidoglycan hydrolases,
• structural studies of proteins,
• investigation of the role and relevance of selected autolysins in physiology of bacterial cells.

The area of the research in which the candidate would participate:

• biochemical and structural characterization of bacterial proteins,
• optimization of the production and purification of recombinant proteins.

Description of job position activities:

• active participation in the scientific activities of the Laboratory, the Institute, and the scientific community,
• active acquisition of research funding by preparation of grant applications in accordance with competition rules,
• analysis of the obtained data,
• preparation of manuscripts and their publication,
• preparation of conference presentations, and representing the Institute at scientific conferences,
• active participation in seminars, courses, and training.

Obligatory requirements:

• at least a Ph.D. degree in medical, biological or related sciences,
• at least 2 original articles in scientific journals indexed in JCR, including at least one of which the candidate is the first author, the first equal author or a corresponding author, published after obtaining the Ph.D. degree, but not containing the results of the Ph.D. thesis,
• documented participation in the implementation of research projects for which financing has been obtained through competition,
• experience in molecular biology and biochemistry methods and in conducting bacterial cultures,
• documented active participation in national and international conferences and symposia,
• indicating the Mossakowski Medical Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences as the first-place
  employer,
• fluency in English, both spoken and written.

Additional requirements (desirable):

• knowledge of methods used in structural biology (crystallography, NMR, HDX),
• ability to work with bacteria and fungi,
• experience in microscopic techniques,
• knowledge of statistical methods,
• creativity, readiness for new challenges, and ability to work in a team.
