OF MARIA CURIE-SKŁODOWSKA UNIVERSITY IN LUBLIN 

announces a competition for the position of assistant professor in the group of research workers 

in the Department of Genetics and Microbiology at the Institute of Biological Sciences at the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University 

 

The competition may be entered by individuals who meet the requirements specified in the Act on Higher Education and Science of July 20, 2018 (Journal of Laws of 2023, item 742) and in the UMCS Statute of May 29, 2019, as amended.

Eligibility criteria
  • hold a PhD degree in natural sciences or engineering and technology, obtained at an institution other than Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin not earlier than 7 years before the year of employment in the project (this period may be extended by the time spent during this period on long-term (more than 90 days) documented sickness benefits or rehabilitation benefits due to inability to work; in addition to this period, add the number of months of leave related to the care and upbringing of children granted in accordance with the rules set out in the Labour Code, and in the case of women - 18 months for each child born or adopted, if such a way of indicating breaks in scientific career is more beneficial) 

  • outstanding scientific achievements and experience in acquiring, managing or implementing research projects 

  • documented scientific achievements in the field of molecular biology, bioinformatics, genetics or microbiology confirmed by publications in international journals with a high impact factor 

  • experience in bioinformatics analyses, with particular emphasis on the analysis of data from genomic and metagenomic sequencing. 

  • programming skills in R or Python, knowledge of Bioconductor libraries, ability to work in a Unix environment, and ability to create bioinformatic analytical pipelines 

  • knowledge of English enabling the use of scientific literature 

  • motivation to conduct scientific research and the ability to work in a team. 


Selection process

THE APPLICATION FOR THE COMPETITION SHOULD INCLUDE: 

  • application addressed to the Rector of UMCS, 

  • a copy or certified copy of the doctoral diploma, or a resolution on awarding a doctoral degree, or another document confirming the award of a doctoral degree,

  • a list of scientific publications, 

  • a list of scientific and organizational achievements, 

  • candidate's statement that UMCS will be the primary place of employment in the event of employment, 

  • the opinion of the person holding the academic title of professor or the academic degree of habilitated doctor on the candidate's scientific achievements, 

  • a letter of recommendation or an opinion from a person holding the academic title of professor or the academic degree of habilitated doctor about the candidate's scientific achievements, 

  • declaration of the candidate that he/she consents to the processing of personal data, in accordance with Article 6(1)(a) of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (General Data Protection Regulation).

  • employment under a research grant on the basis of a fixed-term employment contract from 1 May 2024 to 30 April 2026, on a full-time basis, in the primary place of employment for a period of not less than 6 months, 

  • during the period of receiving remuneration under the established employment relationship, it is not possible to collect any other remuneration on the basis of an employment contract with any employer (also applies to an employer having its registered office outside the territory of the Republic of Poland), 

  • during the period of employment at UMCS as part of a research project, no other remuneration may be collected from funds awarded as direct costs from research projects funded under calls for proposals of the National Science Centre.
