About the Job

We are looking to expand our team with a Researcher/Project Manager in architecture or urban planning, to engage university communities (including students and staff) and societal stakeholders (inhabitants and professionals) in transdisciplinary hubs for societal transformation.

NTNU Smart Sustainable Cities has a large portfolio of externally funded projects in collaboration with public and private sectors, and cultural and grassroot organizations. We want to strengthen the team with a researcher who can contribute to the ENHANCE+ project (funded by Erasmus+). The researcher will also contribute to ongoing projects such as Re-Value, NEB-STAR and CrAFt projects (funded by Horizon Europe, EU Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities) and the New European Bauhaus Alliance, as well as the development and implementation of new strategic projects and activities in support of the European Green Deal. 

The projects of our team are largely based on multi-actor collaboration, including cross-sectoral co-creation with local and European partners from the public and private sectors, arts and culture, inhabitants' organizations and communities, academia, NGOs, media and others. We are therefore looking for a researcher who can combine the role of day-to-day manager with the development and quality assurance of new co-creation-based knowledge and who can communicate this knowledge in scientific articles and public dissemination.

Your immediate leader is head of department.

Duties of the position

  • Strengthen the role of universities in driving societal transformation through transdisciplinary collaborations between science and society, with emphasis on transdisciplinary student hubs.
  • Implement different transdisciplinary methods and tools through co-creative workshops and summer schools.
  • Promote inclusiveness and diversity by engaging a broad stakeholder group across university communities.
  • Establish a long-term foundation for societal transformation through transdisciplinary practices,
  • Daily management of EU projects, in close collaboration with the project coordination team including quality assurance of work carried out, and financial and risk management in line with local and European priorities.
  • Close cooperation with and follow-up of European project partners
  • Development and quality assurance of new co-creation-based knowledge
  • Communicate this knowledge in scientific articles and general communication.
  • Development and implementation of new strategic projects and activities, with particular emphasis on projects linked to the European social mission on climate-neutral and smart cities (Cities Mission) and the New European Bauhaus initiative.
  • Cooperation with like-minded European initiatives, platforms, and projects
  • Contribution to national and European regulatory, policy and standardization initiatives

Required selection criteria

Researcher (code 1109)

  • You must have the qualifications required for the position of Researcher (code 1109) comparable to qualifications as outlined for Associate Professor in the regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts.
  • You must have completed a Norwegian doctoral degree or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian PhD in architecture, urban design, planning or other relevant subjects, or equivalent practice-based experience, within the same subjects.
  • If you can document that the PhD thesis has been submitted, your application can be assessed even if you have not yet defended your dissertation. Your dessertation must be obtained and documented before you can take up the position.

Researcher (code 1108)

  • You must have the qualifications required for the position of Researcher (code 1108), comparable to qualifications as outlined for Assistant Professor in the regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts.
  • You must have completed your master’s degree or corresponding foreign master’s degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian master’s degree in architecture, urban design, planning or other relevant subjects.
  • Relevant research qualifications above the level of a higher degree and/or relevant professional practice.
  • Master's students can apply, but the master's degree must be obtained and documented before you can take up the position.

Applicable to all:

  • Documented competence from project management in national or international research and innovation collaboration
  • Documented competence in interdisciplinary co-creation
  • Documented practice in scientific publishing at a high level as well as general communication
  • Good written and oral English language skills
  • Be available for work-related travel

Salary and conditions

The gross salary for the position of Researcher code 1108 is normally remunerated at gross from NOK 567.454 - 886.312 before tax per year, depending on qualifications and seniority.

The gross salary for the position of Researcher code 1109 is normally remunerated at gross from NOK 777.900 - 886312 before tax per year, depending on qualifications and seniority.

From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU

The position is subject to external funding.

It is a prerequisite that you can be present at and accessible to the institution daily.
