Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in WarEffects Project

The WarEffects research team  at the Department of Government  at the University of Bergen invites applications for a three-year Postdoctoral Fellow position. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a talented young scholar to contribute to a prestigious ERC-funded research project dedicated to transforming our understanding of the impacts of war, conflict, and violence on gender relations in society, politics, and the economy. We seek an individual with excellent quantitative methods skills and a keen interest in peace and conflict, politics, and post-conflict development.

The Department of Government covers political science, studies of public policy, public administration, democracy and political behaviour, and global politics. The Department offers bachelor’s, master’s and PhD degrees in political science/public administration and is one of the seven departments at the Faculty of the Social Sciences.

About the WarEffects project

Do wars, conflict, and violence transform gender relations? This question is at the heart of our research project “WarEffects – Micro-Level Effects of Civil Wars on Multiple Dimensions of Women’s Empowerment.” In this project, we explore if, how, and under what conditions violence, conflict, and wars alter gender relations at multiple scales. Empirically, we combine surveys, experiments, archival data, GIS, and qualitative field research in Colombia, DR Congo, and Sri Lanka. Our goal is to significantly advance research at the intersection of violent conflict, gender relations, and development across disciplinary boundaries. The project team consists of two postdoctoral research fellows, one PhD student, one research assistant and the PI. The PI of the project is Carlo Koos, Associate Professor of Political Science: https://www.uib.no/en/persons/Carlo.Koos

  • Conduct and publish high-quality research in the context of WarEffects (83%)
  • Teaching and related duties (17%)

  • Close collaboration with the project team
  • Present research findings at international conferences, workshops, and department seminars
