Associate professor of Pharmacy

At the Centre for Pharmacy, the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Clinical Science, there is a vacant full-time permanent position as Associate professor. It may, in special cases, be possible to divide the position into two part-time (50 %) positions for applicants who have especially relevant primary positions.
We are seeking a colleague who, together with the staff at the Centre for Pharmacy, will contribute to excellence in pharmaceutical research and education.

The Centre for Pharmacy is a collaboration between the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. It is responsible for a 5-year integrated professional degree in pharmacy, and for pharmaceutical research. The Centre is administratively placed under the Department of Clinical Science.

The successful applicant will belong to the Centre for Pharmacy, with workplace at the Department of Clinical Science. The Centre conducts research and teaches in fields related to the development, production, effect, and use of pharmaceuticals. The person we are seeking is in an active phase of their career and has academic expertise within a research field that is relevant for the Centre for Pharmacy, such as pharmacology or clinical pharmacy.

Work tasks/research field:

The person who fills this position shall both initiate and lead research projects, teach and supervise students and research fellows, as well as take on administrative tasks within a recommendatory time frame. It is expected that the person who fills this position will regularly submit applications to relevant national and international sources for research financing. The teaching responsibilities that are assigned to this position are primarily connected to pharmacology, clinical pharmacy and/or pharmaceutical technology, but the person who fills this position is obligated to teach in areas relating to the study programmes for which the faculty/department is responsible at any given time. The person who fills this position is expected to demonstrate a high level of ambition and good quality with regards to research and teaching, and to participate actively in the strategic planning and academic activities of the department and the faculty.

Qualifications and personal qualities:

Qualified applicants have a Norwegian doctoral degree in a relevant academic field, or equivalent qualifications and has a MPharm degree from a Norwegian university or equivalent. Candidates with experience from pharmaceutical workplaces such as pharmacies, hospitals or pharmaceutical industry will be favoured. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development of the Centre for Pharmacy, and demonstrate enthusiasm for pharmacy education. The applicant must have the necessary competence to contribute to teaching in different pharmaceutical fields, document broad experience in teaching within pharmacy, and satisfy the requirements concerning educational competence. The ideal candidate publishes at a high international level, has been successful in applying for grants from national and international sources of financing for research and educational development, and has established, or is in the process of establishing, his or her own research team. Results attained in the course of the last 5-7 years will be given particular weight in evaluation of the application. The ideal candidate also has experience with teaching at the bachelor- and master level or in a programme of professional study, as well as experience with supervision of research fellows. Experience from different national and international research institutions, and the ability to establish international networks will count positively in the evaluation, as will experience with and interest in innovation. The applicant’s personal suitability for the position is a significant factor in the evaluation.

Educational competence is a requirement for the position, see guidelines for establishment of a pedagogical portfolio at Center for medical education . An associate professor will be offered the necessary training if the requirement is not met before appointment.

The language of teaching is normally Norwegian. The person who fills this position must be able to demonstrate the ability to teach in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language within two years after appointment. Language courses will be offered.

  • Salary NOK 708 000 – 732 300 (code 1011, pay grade 71-73), specialist salary NOK 732 300 - 759 100 (code 1011, pay grade 73-75). Salary gross p.a. for a full-time position in the state salary scale. In the case of a highly qualified applicant, a higher salary may be considered.
