Tutor - English for Academic Purposes

 Tutoring role providing teaching, course and curriculum development, administration, service and student support.

Mō te tūka | The role

Provide English for Academic Purposes teaching, course and curriculum development, administration, service and student support in the programmes of Academic Preparation and Pathways in Te Tuawhiti and support the unit and the University to achieve its operational and strategic objectives.

Academic Preparation and Pathways, a part of Te Tuawhiti at Lincoln University, delivers transition programmes for international and domestic students who intend to study for undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications. The unit offers an English for Academic Purposes programme for students who need to meet the English language requirements for entry to tertiary study, and the Certificate in University Studies and the Diploma in University Studies for students who need to meet academic entry requirements for undergraduate study or have been out of tertiary study for some time.

This is a permanent role working 37.5 hours per week based at our Lincoln Campus. 

Kā tino Pūkeka/Whēako | Essential skills/experience for the role

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • A bachelor degree or higher; a postgraduate qualification is preferred
  • A recognised teaching qualification in TESOL or equivalent, suitable for teaching English for Academic Purposes in a university environment.
  • At least three years' recent teaching experience in the tertiary and/or language learning sector together with evidence of successful outcomes for students.
  • At least three years' recent experience in the development, moderation and delivery of curricula and assessment for tertiary and/or language learning students in alignment with current best practice. The successful candidate will be highly familiar with online assessment.
  • Relevant, recent experience in the successful delivery of online teaching and a demonstrated commitment to developing one's own professional capability in this area.
  • Relevant, recent experience in the delivery and administrative support of on-campus English for Academic Purposes programmes, including for short-term groups.
