Position Overview

Tāwharau Ora, the School of Veterinary Sciences (SoVS) at Massey University invites applications for a part-time, (18.75 hours per week) 12-month fixed-term position starting in January / February 2024.

The Large Animal Teaching Unit (LATU), housed within the University’s School of Veterinary Science is an extensively used facility for practical large animal teaching to both Veterinary and Animal Science students. The buildings occupy approximately 2,000 m2 of covered space and sit on 58ha of farmland devoted to teaching animal herds. The LATU facilities include modern roofed yards for handling large animals, stalls, and an arena for examining horses and cattle, plus sheep handling facilities. We maintain a dry dairy herd, a tame mixed‐age cow herd, 30 horses, and several hundred sheep.

You will report to the LATU Manager and assist in all aspects of the smooth running of the facility. Experience in animal handling particularly with horses and cattle is essential. Sound computer skills are also necessary as you will have primary responsibility for the development and ongoing maintenance of our electronic stock records. You must be enthusiastic, flexible with your work hours, prepared to work weekends on a rotational basis and have plenty of initiative.  

You must be IMMEDIATELY eligible to work in New Zealand starting in January / February 2024.
