About us/Mō mātou

The Ngāi Tahu Māori Health Research Unit (NTMHRU) contributes to a wide range of Māori health research projects and initiatives within the Division of Health Sciences, the University of Otago and our communities to ensure important and beneficial outcomes for Māori are attained.

The role/Te mahi

As a Teaching Fellow, you will assist with teaching undergraduate and post-graduate courses convened by NTMHRU staff.

In particular, you will:
•    Support the teaching of PUBH204, PUBH712 and PUBH304.
•    Plan and deliver tutorials for undergraduate Hauora Māori courses PUBH204, and PUBH304.
•    Assist with the preparation and development of course material, course plans and assessment.
•    Provide administrative support to course convenors.
•    Invigilate and mark assessment exercises and provide feedback to students on their progress towards learning outcomes.
•    Provide appropriate pastoral support to students.
•    Share knowledge with and contribute to the NTMHRU team and broader University community.

Skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

Successful candidates will have:
•    An undergraduate bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
•    Prior knowledge or experience of Hauora Māori.
•    An understanding of and experience with Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori.
•    Proficiency in standard software applications such as the Microsoft Office suite.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•    Excellent organisation and planning skills.

In addition, desirable skills or experience include:
•    A PhD in a relevant field.
•    Experience teaching or tutoring at a tertiary level.
•    Experience using University systems such as Blackboard, Moodle and eVision.

This is a permanent, full time (1FTE) position.

Candidates will be appointed within the Teaching Fellow Band 1 or Band 2 salary scale, based on qualifications and experience.
