About our team/Mō te tīma

The University of Otago, Christchurch is the base for medical and postgraduate health education and health research in Christchurch. We collaborate closely in our research and student programmes with the region’s hospitals run by the Canterbury District Health Board, and other community health agencies.

The role/Te mahi

As a Teaching Fellow within our Department, you will help develop online course material, under the supervision of course convenors. This includes supporting and undertaking online learning modules to a standard that meets the quality standards expected in the Department/School/Division and discipline.

Among other tasks, you will also:
•    Ensure materials for delivery of online learning modules are prepared and assigned.
•    Assist with the preparation and development of course plans, assessment criteria and feedback approaches.
•    Design and develop assessment exercises and provide feedback to participants.
•    Contribute andragogical expertise and experience to discussion on areas of the curriculum, working collaboratively to support and encourage colleagues to think creatively and innovatively.
•    Facilitate and support the use of appropriate tools and technology in the delivery of teaching.
•    Maintain teaching practice, evidenced by the ability to demonstrate knowledge of developments including technical or discipline changes.
•    Maintain, as appropriate, involvement or memberships of appropriate working groups and committees.

The opportunity to undertake research is subject to Department, School or Divisional requirements.

Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

•    Appointments to Band 1 may be a relatively recent graduate with some teaching or tutoring experience.
•    Appointments to Band 2 will be experienced teachers with several years’ experience in their discipline, and normally hold or be working towards a relevant postgraduate qualification and/or teaching qualification.

This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), fixed term position for 12 months based in Christchurch.

The salary range for this position is $75,231 to $172,693 per annum.
