Who we are/Ko wai mātou

Now 155 years old, the University of Otago is New Zealand's first and oldest University. It has a strong teaching and research tradition and well-established national and international linkages. The Ecology Degree Programme at Otago is a vibrant, successful cross-departmental programme within the Division of Sciences. The Ecology Programme studies animals and plants in relation to their environment and with each other. Staff from several departments (mainly Botany, Zoology and Marine Science) teach in the Programme.

The Role/Te Mahi

We are looking for a Teaching Fellow to provide learning support at the University of Otago, Dunedin. In this role, you will work under the guidance of the academic leads responsible for the Ecology Degree Programme.

Key tasks include:
•    Supporting teaching in core undergraduate papers including preparation, assisting with teaching, running tutorials, assessment and administration duties.
•    Assisting with organising logistics for field camps, field trips and field-based practical exercises.

Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

You will have an expert understanding of postgraduate and undergraduate student learning skills development at tertiary level, as well as:
•    A post-graduate qualification in Ecology or a related discipline.
•    Proven ability to work with students and staff from differing academic and cultural backgrounds.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

There are two permanent, full-time (1.0 FTE) positions available from 1 June 2024.

The salary range for this position is $70,692 to $82,008 per annum.
