About our team/ Mō te tīma 

The Classics Programme, University of Otago, offers a range of undergraduate papers in Classical Studies, as well as both Greek and Latin (from the introductory level for beginners). In 2020 we were ranked the top Classics Programme in New Zealand and one of the top 50 Classics and Ancient History programmes in the world.

Our students are progressively taught aspects of the ancient cultures that existed in the Mediterranean area from the Bronze Age to the Roman Empire. Research-informed courses focus on studying the cultural importance of artistic, archaeological, literary, and historical sources, while also linking this material to cross-cultural perspectives, cross-disciplinary approaches, and modern reception studies. 

The role/Te mahi

We are currently recruiting for a Teaching Fellow to support the Classics Programme in the development and delivery of an online Greek and Latin language curriculum. 

Duties comprise developing activities, assessments, and other learning materials to be delivered through our online learning platform (Blackboard) for the grammar acquisition sequence of both Ancient Greek and Latin.

In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for teaching the online component of both Greek and Latin first year courses, liaising with the faculty member coordinating those courses.

Skills and Experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

The successful candidate is expected to be in the final stages of completing their PhD or have their PhD in hand. 

You should have experience in online learning tools and/or curriculum development and have high language proficiency in both Ancient Greek and Latin.

This is a part-time (0.5 FTE), fixed term position available from 1 November 2024 to 31 October 2026, located in Dunedin. However, consideration will be given for this position to be undertaken remotely.

The salary range for a Teaching & Professional Practice Fellow is $70,692 to $82,008 per annum. The successful candidate will be appointed to an appropriate level based on qualifications, skills, and experience.
