The role/Te mahi

This is an amazing opportunity for a leader in spatial planning. Working in the stunning city of Dunedin for an iconic New Zealand institution ranked in the top 1% of universities in the world, your role will be to lead the development and delivery of Otago’s Strategic Space Programme.

Starting with the programme business case, implementation planning and data gathering, you will facilitate engagement with key stakeholders across the University community. The goal is to identify and coordinate the delivery of projects needed to improve space utilisation across our campuses, to efficiently and sustainably support our core activities of teaching and research.

Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

We are looking for candidates with excellent Programme and Project Management Skills, who have delivered large multi-faceted programmes with complex stakeholder engagement, ideally within the Tertiary Education field.  

Our successful candidate will have a strong understanding of spatial planning, and experience delivering Space Optimisation projects.

The University of Otago is New Zealand’s oldest University with a strong teaching and research tradition and well-established national and international linkages. It is one of New Zealand’s largest universities, with campuses in Dunedin, Wellington, Christchurch, Auckland, and Invercargill.

The Property & Campus Development Division is responsible for the University’s built environment.  Meeting the changing space needs of over 4,000 staff and 20,000 students is a complex 3D puzzle!

As outlined in the University’s strategic document Pae Tata, a strategic and responsive approach to campus planning is needed in order to deliver what our communities need while achieving greater space utilisation efficiency.
