Position Overview
Are you a bit of a Foodie? Do you enjoy working as part of a team? We seek a personable, enthusiastic, proactive and well-organised Food Sensory Technician to join the Food Experience and Sensory Testing (FEAST) group in Massey’s School of Food and Advanced Technology.
This is a fixed-term (1 year), position (30 hours per week) to support projects with external clients in the NZ food industry.
The role will involve working with Professor Hort, industrial partners and the Feast facility Manager to maintain procedures for appropriate hygiene, health and safety practices, standard operating procedures for the lab, data collection software and panel databases. You will provide technical support to sensory and consumer panels, enabling the implementation of sensory and consumer investigations.
Applicants should have:
- A minimum of a Diploma in Applied Science and experience working in a lab
- Previous technical experience or panel leading in sensory and consumer studies is desirable.
- A background and/or knowledge of hygiene procedures when handling food is also key as is general protocols for handling hazardous materials.
Applicants should be trustworthy, able to work independently and as part of a team and be capable of showing initiative. Excellent communication and administrative skills are required as you will deal with our sensory panel members, staff, students and visitors and will order consumables and equipment.
