Position Overview

The Riddet Institute is a world-best research centre in food and nutritional sciences, providing fundamental scientific understanding and training for a new generation of science leaders.  The Institute integrates partner organisations (Massey University (host), Auckland and Otago Universities, AgResearch and Plant & Food Research) and disciplines, leading a “NZ Inc” approach to food research, and generates knowledge and capability that transforms the New Zealand food industry. 

We are seeking a Senior Research Technician to provide comprehensive technical support to enable the achievement of research objectives in a safe and supportive environment.

This includes the management and maintenance of laboratory facilities and equipment, the provision of guidance and training to research staff and postgraduate students on equipment usage and good laboratory practice, and the application of appropriate research protocols and analysis.

As the successful applicant you will have a tertiary qualification in science and have experience in working in an analytical laboratory; using analytical techniques for the characterization of food structures and protein characterization; and in troubleshooting and method set-up for different types of scientific equipment and significant experience with in vitro digestion methodssuch as the use of the human gastric simulator and the semi-dynamic digestion model. The candidate would also be well organised, be able to work with a wide range of people, be able to work independently as well as within a team.  

The salary scale for this role is a Professional Grade 5 (for 2024), ranging from $56,622 - $80,006 (NZD). Salary will be based on skills and experience.

The position is a permanent role and will be located at the Riddet Institute on the Massey University campus in Palmerston North.
