NIWA Vessel Management Ltd (NIWA Vessels) is a subsidiary of the New Zealand National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA). NIWA Vessels owns and operates a fleet of three research vessels out of Port Wellington that provide word-class environmental monitoring and research platforms.
We have a great opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced seagoing cook to join the research vessel Tangaroa team. This position reports to the Chief Cook under the Master and is responsible for assisting in the timely preparation and production of quality nutritious meals for the crew and voyage participants. Ensuring the galley and stores are maintained to a high standard.


What we're looking for:
You are a motivated experienced cook that relishes in a team environment. High standards and hygiene are part of your DNA. Your culinary expertise will be an asset for accommodating to a range of dietary requirements. An experienced seafarer you are at home with the conditions of the sea and undertaking multi week voyages.
What you will bring:
• Sea going experience
• STCW Basic Training
• Excellent communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Team player
One or more of the following
• NZ Certificate in Hospitality Basic Cookery L3
• NZ Certificate in Cookery L3
• NZ - City and Guilds cookery training 706/1 and 706/2
• Aus - MAR30415 Certificate III in marine operations Marine cookery
• Aus - SIT30816 Certificate III in commercial cookery
• MNZ Ships Cook Certificate (desirable)
