2-year Fixed Term Position

Join our Materials, Engineering and Manufacturing team for an exciting 2-year postdoctoral fellowship where you will provide technical expertise, scientific knowledge and contribution to high-quality scientific research in developing high-value products from lignocellulosic waste using innovative approaches towards a circular bioeconomy.

The challenge for our successful candidate will be around the development of innovative approaches to synthesise high-value products from lignocellulosic waste using nanotechnology approaches as well as the physicochemical and biological characterisation of the as-prepared materials. You will be responsible for conducting experimental scientific research, collaborating on written reports, articles and research proposals and co-supervision of junior staff and students. 

What are we looking for?

We are looking for an excellent innovative candidate with a broad range of skills and abilities who is motivated and enthusiastic about science.

You will have:

  • PhD. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science/Engineering, Nanotechnology, Industrial Microbiology, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated technical skills in synthesis and characterisation of advanced bio- or nano-materials for applications in biotechnology, medicine, food, environment or other related topics, and excellent analytical techniques in at least one of two following categories:
    • Microbial cell culture and characterisation, antimicrobial and toxicity assays, staining techniques, fluorescence microscopy, and other related bioanalytical techniques.
    • Nanomaterials synthesis using wet chemistry, and characterisation using electron microscopy, TGA, FTIR, electron microscopy, fluorescence microscopy, HPLC, and other related analytical techniques.
  • Strong research experience with a focus on experimental design, technical competence, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Ability to set and achieve goals in the technical area, aligning with project guidelines and organizational direction.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, including statistical experimental design and interpretation of results.
  • Exceptional teamwork skills, thriving in dynamic collaborative research environments.
  • Highly organized with a track record of meeting deadlines and delivering results.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, enabling effective contributions to diverse areas of science.
