We are seeking an outstanding individual to join our world-class academics in He Rau Kawakawa (School of Pharmacy) at the University of Otago, in Te Wai Pounamu, the beautiful South Island of Aotearoa New Zealand.

The role/Te mahi

He Rau Kawakawa is committed to strengthening its curriculum and research in relation to kaupapa Māori and mātauranga Māori, the University of Otago’s Māori Strategic Framework, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi (The Treaty of Waitangi). This position affords an exciting opportunity to research and teach from a kaupapa Māori perspective, and to conduct research that is transformative and beneficial for Māori communities.

Applicants should also have demonstrated excellence – or potential to develop excellence – in research and teaching application of skills to enable best health outcomes.

Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

The successful candidate must have the following skills and experience:
•    Completed or nearly completed PhD with established research focus in Hauora Māori.
•    Outstanding record of research and teaching, or demonstrated potential for development of such.
•    Commitment to rigour and ethics in research and teaching as well as equity, collegiality, respect, and diversity.

In addition, one or more of the following is required:
•    Competence in tikanga, values, ideas and practices as they relate to Hauora Māori.
•    Experience, in research or teaching from a kaupapa Māori and mātauranga Māori perspective.
•    An ability to contribute to teaching and learning environments that support engagement of students and staff with te ao Māori, and mātauranga Māori.
•    Established, or commitment to developing, relationships with national and local iwi and rūnaka.
•    Commitment to upholding tikanga an kawa.

The University of Otago welcomes, supports and celebrates Māori staff and students. The Office of Māori Development provides guardianship over Māori matters at an organisation-wide level. The University has a Māori staff caucus known as Te Poutama Māori and a Māori student centre known as Te Huka Mātauraka. Each division of the University has an Associate Dean Māori, and Māori students, and within the school we have a dedicated Hauora Māori team committed to achieving the best outcomes for our Māori students and their whanau.

This is a permanent, full-time (1.0FTE) position.

The salary range for a Lecturer is $90,902 to $107,300 per annum or Senior Lecturer $112,482 to $128,305 per annum.
