Te āheinga: The opportunity

In this position you'll play a critical role in our learners' journey here at Unitec. You'll enable their success through providing professional, high-quality mental health support, in-turn allowing them to flourish during their time at Unitec. The role has a particular focus on supporting our Māori, Pacific, Disabled and Neurodiverse students.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You'll come from a clinical background gained in either Psychotherapy, Psychology, Counselling or Mental Health and have the demonstrated ability to work successfully with a broad range of mental health consumers, within a multi-disciplinary team.

Necessary skills and experience:

  • Hold a Postgraduate or Masters tertiary qualification acceptable to the New Zealand Association of Psychotherapists (NZAP), New Zealand Psychologists Board (NZPB), New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC), New Zealand Social Work Registration Board (NZSWRB) or other relevant professional body, as agreed with the Team Leaders of
  • Proven experience working with complex and chronic mental health issues (3 years minimum)
  • Full membership of PBANZ, NZPB, NZAC, SWRB or equivalent
  • Demonstrated understanding of social issues that affect educational and employment opportunities in Aotearoa New Zealand
  • Experienced in successfully assessing and managing risk
  • An understanding or desire to learn Te Reo Māori, Tikanga Māori and the values and practices of Kaupapa Māori

 Desirable:

  • Experience working in mental health in a tertiary educational setting
  • Proven experience in training/facilitation/presentations to groups
  • Sound experience in varied service delivery models
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationship across multidisciplinary networks
  • Information Technology (IT) literacy including Outlook and MS office
