Te āheinga: The opportunity

As a Specialist you will support prospective students by proactively engaging with applicants and our teaching Schools, to optimise selection and enrolment activities and processes to enable Unitec - part of Te Pukenga to achieve enrolments and retention targets. The specialist will provide efficient and effective administrative Subject Matter Expertise across the relevant academic support operations functions.

This position requires active student engagement, and a core requirement is to contact applicants telephonically, followed up by other media to ensure high conversion of enrolment and improved student processes and one-on-one student contact as needed.  You will be responsible for closely assessing students' documentation to ensure they meet the entry criteria for the programme they have applied for or work with them to find an alternative programme of study or study plan leading towards their eventual career goals.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You'll have:

  • An understanding or desire to learn Te Reo Māori, Tikanga Māori, and the values and practices of Kaupapa Māori
  • Evidence of active engagement in building diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplaces/environments
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with a wide range of people, including applicants, their whānau, academic staff, senior management, support services and external clients.
  • The ability to compose and present correspondence of a specialist nature. As you'll be the main point of contact during our student's application process, communication is key.
  • Excellent personal accountability and workflow management, attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Ideally, you will have a minimum of 2 years of experience coming from a customer service background within a tertiary environment and be confident liaising with applicants over the phone.
  • Demonstrated organisational ability that includes experience in meeting deadlines, prioritising competing demands and an ability to use initiative and work both with minimal supervision and as a member of a team. 
  • High degree of proficiency in Office computing applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software such as PowerPoint and email.
  • Passionate about people and delivering a great service to our students.
  • Excellent analytical skills and a solution-focused way of working.
  • Experience in an administration position.

Desirable

  • Experience in the Oracle suite of products, specifically PeopleSoft
