English Language Lecturer

International students are returning and our number of NZCEL cohorts is increasing. In Language Studies we teach NZCEL3 General right through to NZCEL5 with most of our students moving into mainstream study at Unitec or other Institutes once they have finished their English study.

Te āheinga: The opportunity

Language Studies has a vacancy for a number of casual Lecturers to do relief teaching of English in our New Zealand Certificate in English Language Programmes (NZCEL). We are particularly interested in teachers who have experience at teaching NZCEL from Levels 3 General to Level 5. This position is to cover staff sickness. You may be offered more hours if there is demand.

Please note: the position description attached to this role is for permanent lecturers, you will not be asked to complete research. We just simply need you to teach.  Be available to cover teaching in the event of staff sicknes.

 

He kōrero mōu: About you

You will be someone who has experience in teaching English in NZ and/or overseas and have an understanding of the requirements of the NZCEL qualification. You may also have evidence of working with systems and coordinating English language programmes within a Tertiary environment. You will need to have a genuine passion for student success. You'll be naturally engaging and approachable and enjoys collaborating with others.

You'll have:

  • A CELTA / DELTA or equivalent teaching qualification
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • A proven track record of teaching NZCEL or a similar Academic English qualification, particularly at the higher levels
  • Evidence of active engagement in building diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplaces/environments
  • An understanding or desire to learn Te Reo Māori, Tikanga Māori, and the values and practices of Kaupapa Māori

Desirable:

  • A knowledge of e Learning platforms, such as Moodle, tools, and approaches
