Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
We welcome applications for the position of Confucius Institute Coordinator, who is to provide support to multiple projects and stakeholders associated with the Confucius Institute at the University of Canterbury. You will help the Institute deliver programmes and cultural experiences to promote both Chinese language and cultural learning.

You will ensure that partner schools across the South Island are enabled to access the Mandarin Language Assistant programme, and our Mandarin Language Assistants are supported in their work teaching Chinese in schools. You provide support for the management of language and culture courses and help to ensure the quality of programmes is consistently high. The CI Coordinator will also provide administrative support for the Institute, ensuring that the office runs smoothly and efficiently, professional frontline services are afforded to all stakeholders. Event planning and promotion, including promotion and marketing via social media, will also be key aspects of this role, in particular the Chinese Bridge competition and Chinese Prizegiving's.

Mōu | Who You Are
To succeed in this pivotal role in the Confucius Institute, you will be a highly organised individual with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. Fluency in English is required, and knowledge of Mandarin Chinese (HSK 3 or above) is preferred. You will also possess the following skills and experience:

  • A Tertiary Qualification (NZQA Level 5), a Bachelor's degree is desirable
  • Substantial experience in project coordination 
  • An understanding of and sensitivity towards cross-cultural situations
  • Experience in Marketing, ideally with a background in preparing promotional and publicity materials
  • Experience in a general office support role, preferably within a large organisation
  • Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to cope with competing demands
  • Ability to competently use all modern office technology and skills of updating and maintaining websites and social media accounts

The successful candidate will have a valid driver's licence. A First Aid certificate would be preferred but is not essential.
