The Educational Assessment Research Unit (EARU) is located within the College of Education at the University of Otago. It comprises a dedicated team of researchers and technical staff, whose purpose is to measure student progress and achievement and other contextual factors that influence teaching and learning, so that results can be used to shape policy and inform classroom practice. The role/Te mahi Reporting to the Project Lead, and in consultation with key stakeholders, the Communications and Engagement Specialist will lead the planning, development and implementation of our communications and engagement strategy and the deliverables that support it. The work will include a strong focus on honouring the aspirations of the Study to give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako We’re looking for an experienced and dynamic communications professional to work with our team in optimising the visibility and impact of our work in the education sector. You’ll be adept at collaborating with and advising senior colleagues in the development and delivery of communications plans. You’ll also be hands-on in the implementation of communications and engagement activities that uphold our bi-cultural aspirations, and are engaging, relevant, tailored to educators, parents and whānau, policymakers, and other stakeholders. This is an exciting part-time opportunity for someone with outstanding communication skills to take a lead role in a project that delivers key data and information to government, schools, and teachers to improve education in Aotearoa New Zealand. • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in communications.
• Proven ability to plan, implement and evaluate multi-channel communications and engagement strategies targeted at a diverse audience.
• Provide expert advice and services to enhance the Study through storytelling, compelling content, engaging events, and stakeholder relations.
• Innovative, forward thinking with an advanced communication toolkit.
• Advanced writing skills and strong attention to detail.
• Highly effective people skills with the ability to develop relationships across all levels of an organisation.
• Demonstrated organisational skills; able to set priorities and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently, show initiative, problem solve and work productively as part of a team.
• Knowledge of te reo Māori and tikanga Māori preferred but not essential.
