Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Creative New Zealand/NZSM Sonic Artist-in-Residence at Toi Pōneke 2024 for a 3-month position for established sonic artists to develop a body of work that may include performances, installations, workshops and so forth. The position is jointly funded by Creative New Zealand and Toi Pōneke, with the NZSM as host organisation. A studio space is provided by Toi Pōneke for the duration of the residency and may be able to provide space for presentation of work.

This position fosters and expands sonic arts in Aotearoa by providing leading artists with the opportunity to develop innovative and substantial work. It is expected that the appointee will be based in Wellington for the duration of the residency.

The Te Kōkī - New Zealand School of Music (NZSM ), Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington, has the breadth and depth of music study available nowhere else in New Zealand. Selection Information

The selection committee will comprise at least 3 members of the staff of the NZSM, plus one external expert. The committee will base their decision on the artistic standards and track record of the applicant, as evidenced through a CV and portfolio of representative works, as well as the potential of the proposed work, both in terms of its artistic vision and its engagement with the sound art community in Wellington and beyond. In addition, shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview with the appointment panel to articulate their vision for the proposed work.

Closing Date for Vacancy: 1 July 2024 - Applicants should be New Zealand citizens or hold a valid New Zealand residency visa.

Applicants may not be a student or staff member of the Te Kōkī - New Zealand School of Music during the period of the residency. Applicants should not intend to engage in other substantial external employment contracts or study during the period of the residency.
