Who we are/Ko wai mātou

The University of Otago, Wellington (UOW) provides health research and teaching in New Zealand’s capital city. It enjoys collaborative relationships with District Health Boards, local health service providers, multiple central and local government agencies such as the Ministry of Health and Wellington City Council as well as other tertiary education providers such as Massey and Victoria University.  It also has strong links with local iwi.

World of Difference | He Ao Whakatoihara kore is an award-winning teaching and research programme run through the Department of Psychological Medicine at the University of Otago, fully led and delivered by those with lived experience of mental distress. We deliver a comprehensive contact-based programme within undergraduate medical student education through to psychiatric registrar training, focused on ending discrimination and promoting recovery and respect for human rights. We also undertake service-user led and co-produced research. 

The role/Te mahi

The Assistant Research Fellow- Programme Coordinator is responsible for supporting the World of Difference | He Ao Whakatoihara kore Programme Lead by providing assistance with a wide range of managerial tasks. This includes tasks as they relate to both the teaching and research programmes of the World of Difference | He Ao Whakatoihara kore.

To be successful in the role you will:
•    Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
•    Be proactive and willing to take initiative.
•    Have ability to work independently and as a team member.
•    Be able to write and present information in a meaningful way that others can clearly understand.
•    Be able to prioritise and keep track of work, as well as establish and maintain relevant and accurate records.
•    Be familiar with common word processing, spreadsheet, visual presentation, data management and analysis software.
•    Have relevant knowledge of te reo Māori me ōna tikanga and/or willingness to learn.
•    Have a demonstrated understanding of Te Tiriti and commitment to progressing the Te Tiriti journey of the World of Difference | He Ao Whakatoihara Kore.

This role is specific to someone with lived experience of mental distress.

Further Information/Pūroko

This is a part-time (0.4FTE) permanent position, located in Wellington.

The salary range for this position is $58,341 to $78,531 per annum, pro rata.
