NIWA Vessel Management Ltd (NIWA Vessels) is a subsidiary of the New Zealand National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA).  NIWA Vessels owns and operates a fleet of three research vessels out of Port Wellington that provide word-class environmental monitoring and research platforms.

We have a great opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Able Bodied Seafarer to join the research vessel Tangaroa team.  This position reports to the Bosun under the Master and is responsible for undertaking a variety of deck duties to assist with our scientific research programmes. 

What we're looking for:

You are a motivated and experienced seafarer that understands the importance of excellent team dynamics and collaboration.  Physical fitness, experience and aptitude will be your critical assets in performing your duties. You are at home with the varying conditions of the sea and the undertaking of multi week voyages.

What you will bring:

  • Trawl fishing experience
  • Net mending experience
  • STCW Basic Training
  • Team player
  • Physical capability
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills

One or more of the following

  • NZ CoC Able Seafarer Deck
  • Advanced Deckhand - Fishing
  • Deck Watch Rating
