Job description
The Department of the Built Environment is looking for a passionate Computational Design Specialist to support education and teaching activities within the department, collaborating with the Architectural Design and Engineering Chair, the Unit of Structural Engineering and Design and Information Systems in the Built Environment.
The Computational Specialist will provide teaching support, technical guidance and training to designated courses and student groups, to support design studios, seminars and other courses. Core responsibilities are anchored exclusively around teaching, advising and training students in computational approaches, hands-on tutorials as well as helping with the building up of tutorial content for a computational training platform.
At TU/e we encourage a creative and innovative approach towards teaching. Strong communication skills are key with this undertaking as is an eagerness to learn and extend existing skills.
Job requirements
Skills and Qualifications:
We are looking for a colleague who likes to contribute to education and to the direct development of students by a practice teaching methodology. Therefor you need to have a proven computational design experience in an academic or professional setting and be able to clearly articulate computational strategies in an understandable manner for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Necessary skills:
- Advanced knowledge and experience of 3D modelling software Rhino.
- Grasshopper 3D with correlated plugins with a focus on additive manufacturing with clay/concrete (custom gcode generation etc.).
- Knowledge of parametric optimisation strategies.
- And Robotic Control for additive manufacturing.
Advantageous:
- C#, Python is advantageous.

The salary ranges (scale 7) between €2.693,- and € 3.636,- gross per month, based on a fulltime employment, education and experience.
- Additionally, an annual holiday allowance of 8% of the yearly salary, plus a year-end allowance of 8.3% of the annual salary and 41 holidays per year when working 40 hours a week.
- Should you come from abroad and comply with certain conditions, you can make use of the so-called ‘30% facility’, which permits you not to pay tax on 30% of your salary.
- A broad package of fringe benefits, including an excellent technical infrastructure, moving expenses, and savings schemes.
- Family-friendly initiatives are in place, such as an international spouse program, and excellent on-campus children day care and sports facilities.
