Offer Description
The Biosystems Data Analysis (BDA) research group of the Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences, one of the eight institutes of the University of Amsterdam’s Faculty of Science (FNWI) develops and validates methods for organizing, summarizing, and visualizing complex biological data for systems biology through the integration of bioinformatics and biostatistics.
Within the NWO project “Next Generation ImmunoDermatology (NGID)” we will develop data analysis methods to integrate high-dimensional cross-omics and image-omics datasets by extending manifold alignment methods to multi-omics spatial data. Next, we will develop methods for biomarker discovery by extending multiblock data analysis methods based on component models to deal with the heterogeneity of the data and commonalities of omics-techniques. Data from several sources, such as mass spec imaging, imaging CyTOF, and single cell RNA-seq, and single cell CyTOF, are available and their simultaneous analysis require new data fusion methods.
For this project we are looking for a highly qualified and enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to strengthen our team.
What are you going to do?
You are expected:
- to develop and document methods for fusion and integration of high dimensional cross-omics data and
approaches that can validate these methods;
- to collaborate with bioinformatic, biostatistics and medical partners within the NGID consortium;
- to report and present your work progress on a regular basis to the partners within the consortium;
- to be active in the fundamental and/or applied research of our Biosystems Data Analysis group,
publishing in high level international journals, presenting at leading conferences.
Requirements
Specific Requirements
You have:
- a recent PhD degree in biological or medical data analysis with one or more related publications
as first author in a peer-reviewed scientific journal;
- good communication skills for presenting biological / medical results as well as for presenting
data analysis methods;
- hands-on experience in development of writing code for data analysis methods;
- fluency in English, both written and spoken;
- an ambitious personality with strong team orientation, an open character and the ability
to take ownership of the research project;
Our selection will be based on your scientific track record, your vision on this research project, and your ambition and skills.
Additional Information
Benefits
