Postdoc Position in Homotopy Theory (1.0 FTE)

We are looking for a researcher that complements our team and brings creative and new ideas. As postdoc you will join the Utrecht Geometry Centre at Utrecht University and focus your research on homotopy theory. The research goals in this position should be interpreted broadly, so if you have interest in either:

• unstable homotopy theory;
• chromatic homotopy theory;
• higher algebra;
• derived algebraic geometry;
• or related areas we strongly encourage you to apply.

We would like you to contribute actively to our research environment. This includes participating in our local seminars. In addition, you may be asked to assist in advising BSc or MSc students with an interest in homotopy theory.
The position does not come with teaching duties, but there is ample opportunity to teach, should you wish to do so.
The preferred starting date is September 1, 2024.

• a PhD (or equivalent degree) in mathematics, or a related field, before the starting date of the position;
• a strong research background in homotopy theory or related areas;
• a working proficiency in English;
• a collaborative and enterprising attitude towards research in mathematics.

• a position (1.0 FTE) for two years with a possible extension to a third year;
• a full-time gross salary between €3,226 to €5,090 per month in scale 10 of the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities (CAO);
• 8% holiday bonus and 8.3% end-of-year bonus;
• a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave, and flexible employment conditions based on the CAO;
• travel funding is available to visit conferences and workshops.

The Mathematical Institute has a very active topology community including Lennart Meier , Ieke Moerdijk , and Gijs Heuts . We carry out research in unstable and stable homotopy theory, higher category theory, higher algebra, and derived algebraic geometry. As a member of our research team you will benefit from interactions with the other mathematicians at Utrecht, as well as with the many visitors we host. Moreover, we work closely with the neighbouring topology groups in Nijmegen and Amsterdam. You will have ample opportunity to participate in seminars and workshops. Funding is available to support travel to conferences and workshops abroad.
