Open PDEng positions in antenna research.
We have an open position for a PDEng candidate within our Electromagnetics (EM) Group of the Department of Electrical Engineering (EE) of the Eindhoven University of Technology.
PDEng positions in the area of Antenna systems.
Main focus is on investigating the integration of millimeter wave ICs with antennas. We have carried out research into this topic. The person filling this position has to use the gained knowledge to design and implement an integrated MMIC with antenna solution. The work will be carried out in close cooperation with Dutch high-tech industry and is funded by The NWO Domain Applied and Engineering Sciences (TTW, previously Technology Foundation STW).
The Department Electrical Engineering (EE) of the TU/e, The Department of Electrical Engineering is one of the nine departments of the Eindhoven University of Technology and provides BSc and MSc programs in Electrical Engineering. The department has nine research groups and has research collaborations with other departments at the Eindhoven University of Technology as well as with a large number of other universities and companies, both within the Netherlands and internationally. The department has approximately 300 employees and 600 students.
The Electromagnetics (EM) group develops new electromagnetic modeling strategies that enable the analysis and design of complicated three-dimensional structures for several application domains. In addition, we apply state-of-the art modeling to applications suggested by our partners, with whom we maintain long-ranging collaborations. Among the applications, special focus is on antennas and antenna systems. With over forty years of experience, the EM group has a strong background in applying in-house developed electromagnetic models to develop new concepts and technologies for antennas. Current research includes wideband phased arrays for radar and radio astronomy, arrays for multi-beam satellite reception and arrays for next-generation base stations for mobile communications. A second area of interest is antennas and front-ends at mm-wave frequencies, with current focus on the 60 GHz band with extension up to THz frequencies in the upcoming years. Several concepts and technologies are being explored, including phased-arrays, focal-plane arrays and Antenna on Chip (AoC) in mainstream Silicon technologies. In addition, the integration of antennas in an IC package is also being investigated. We complement the theoretical research by experimental validation. One of the key assets of the group is the availability of antenna measurement facilities and know-how, including two anechoic chambers and a novel (mobile) 60 GHz set-up.
Candidates for the PDEng-positions should have a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Applied Physics or a related topic, with excellent grades (first class honors or equivalent), an interest in combining theory and experiment and well-developed analytic skills.
Conditions of employment
As a PDEng trainee you will be in fulltime temporary appointment for the period of 2 years. A PDEng trainee receives a gross monthly salary of € 1.828,-. Moreover, 8% bonus share (holiday supplement) and end year allowance is provided annually. Assistance for finding accommodation can be given.
