Then you should become a lecturer at the Business Analytics Section of the Amsterdam Business School.

The Faculty of Economics and Business (EB) at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) offers academic education in economics, fiscal economics, econometrics, mathematical economics, actuarial science, and business administration to more than 5,000 students. The faculty also hosts various research groups and employs approximately 400 people. EB is highly regarded internationally and consists of the Amsterdam Business School and the Amsterdam School of Economics (ASE).

The Business Analytics Section of the Amsterdam Business School participates in the bachelor and master programmes in Business Administration, a university-wide minor in Data Science at the bachelor level, a master track in Digital Business, a bachelor in Business Analytics, a master in Business Analytics and Data Science, an MBA in Big Data & Business Analytics and several post-graduate programmes in Big Data & Business Analytics, including programmes in industrial statistics and Lean Six Sigma.

The Business Analytics Section is seeking a lecturer in Statistics, Programming and Information Systems.

What are you going to do?

Your responsibilities as a lecturer will include providing education for various Bachelor's programmes in Business Administration and Business Analytics within the faculty, in either Dutch or English. This primarily involves giving lectures and tutorials in statistics, programming, information systems, and potentially basic operations management. Additionally, the lecturer will coordinate tutorial groups for larger courses, which includes planning the schedule of and overseeing tutors.

Courses that you are likely to teach are: Basic Statistics (with SPSS) ; Introduction to Programming  (with Python), Information and Data Management , Business Operations and Processes , and you may also supervise bachelor thesis projects.

This is a full-time (38-hour) teaching position.

The Business Analytics Section is international, with over 50 employees ranging from PhD candidates to professors, mainly with backgrounds in mathematics, econometrics, computer science, and statistics. The atmosphere is characterized by respect and appreciation for everyone's contributions to education and/or research. There is a monthly section meeting, and colleagues are willing to help one another.

Your profile

  • You are a motivated candidate, preferably with a PhD, but at least a degree in information systems, computer science, econometrics, or a related discipline around (applied) mathematics.
  • You have experience teaching at the university level, or you want to specialize in academic education, and you feel fulfilled by providing inspiring lectures that engage your students.
  • You possess excellent teaching skills and have proven experience with strong evaluations in teaching statistics and programming in English, and preferably also in Dutch.
  • You are a good colleague who approaches others with goodwill and respect.
  • You hold a basic teaching qualification (equivalent to the UTQ ). If you do not yet have this qualification, you will be given the opportunity to obtain it.

Our offer

We offer full-time employment for the period of one year with a probationary period of two months, preferably starting on 1 September 2024, with the prospect of a permanent employment agreement.

The position has UFO profile lecture 3 and is classified in scale 11. This means a gross monthly salary between € 4,332 and € 5,929 for full-time employment (38 hours per week), excluding holiday allowance (8%) and year-end bonus (8.3%). The salary scale depends on competences and work experience. The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities  is applicable.
