Here's how you will make a difference

You will play a senior role in the future development of our research group and the connection between research and education, the education programme Communication and Multimedia Design (CMD) and the research group Digital Life. The applied research will be conducted in collaboration with industry partners, societal partners, education and other (inter) national research groups. Your main contribution is to bring your knowledge and experience in the field of interactive computing design to the acquisition and development of research projects and establish a research line in this field.

You translate developments and initiatives into projects in research and education, ranging from project applications aimed at acquiring substantial, external funding to active knowledge sharing in the curriculum. In addition, the associate professor contributes to education and research that is important for the internal and external positioning of the research group Digital Life.

In general you play a role in the development of the quality policy of the lectorate and in the internal organization of the lectorate, e.g. by co-organizing strategy days and seminars.

Additionally your role brakes down in 3 main areas

1. Research Tasks and Activities

  • Contribute significantly to 2nd and 3rd stream funding acquisition for research projects supporting the sustainability of the Digital Life research group
  • Develop new project proposals and liaise with external parties and potential clients to exchange information and gain support for socially relevant themes to form relevant research networks and consortia
  • Contribute to research grant proposals within the Digital Life research group
  • Coordinate and supervise the execution of externally funded, interdisciplinary multi -year research projects
  • Act as functional manager for a number of teacher-researchers in the research group
  • Supervise (internal) PhD students as daily supervisor
  • Take responsibility for leading output: scientific, professional and public audiences

2. Teaching

You are responsible for bridging the education programme Communication and Multimedia Design (CMD) with the research group Digital Life. The research outcomes, the process, and its methodologies, will benefit education, professionals, and society alike. It will lead to the further development of our students, researchers, lecturers, and continuous innovation in our educational curricula.

  • Connect education and research: Giving inspirational lectures/coaching students in the Associate Degree Frontend Design and Development, Bachelor Communication and Multimedia Design and Master Digital Design and other relevant programs and contributing to their curricula.
  • Develop networks and coalitions, translating questions into research and educational projects, and managing such projects.
  • Conduct research in the field of Interaction Design for Emerging Technologies with a focus on research through design and working with our labs (e.g., Makerslab, Roboticslab, Sensorlab).

3. Education Tasks and Activities

  • Link education and research within and outside the faculty
  • Initiate and direct the implementation of content development of new programs based on specialized theoretical and practically oriented knowledge of the field of interaction design for emergent technologies, in line with current and relevant developments in the field and society
  • Involve key individuals from education at early stages in research proposals
  • Play an active role in curriculum development in education, for example around the Master Digital Design, the bachelor Communication Media & Design, (inter)faculty-wide minors, especially in contributing "cutting edge" interactive computing expertise from experience and knowledge in an inspiring and accessible way
  • Play an active role as education-research liaison, including by maintaining contacts and networks with key figures in education programmes
  • Contribute to the development of policy aimed at further cooperation between education & research.
  • Contribute to the design of new master programmes
