The faculty’s relevant graduate and postgraduate programmes draw a diverse, interesting and interested student population from the Netherlands and abroad. The section European Law teaches a first-year and a second-year Bachelor course in European Law, the minor Law and Justice in the European Union , and executes the Master tracks European Union Law and European Competition Law and Regulation .
What does this job entail?
- You will
- teach and coordinate courses in the field of European law, subject to further agreement and your competences;
- contribute in cooperation with colleagues to the continues development in educational methods and content of the European Law Master’s programmes;
- supervise Master theses at graduate and possibly undergraduate level;
- carry out and publish independent and high-quality research that fits within the research at the the Amsterdam Centre for European Law and Governance (ACELG) ;
- contribute actively tot the research community of the Faculty, in particular of ACELG.
What do you have to offer?
- A PhD in European Law;
- You have proven, high-quality research output in the field of European Law (and/or a closely related field/discipline) in international journals and/or books;
- Didactic qualities as evidenced by educational evaluations and/or teaching qualifications, where available;
- Interest and flexibility to teach in both Master tracks, European Union Law and European Competition Law and Regulation ;
- Command of English both verbal and written, knowledge of Dutch will be considered a clear advantage;
- Strong scientific writing, planning and communications skills.
What can we offer you?
We offer an employment contract for one year with a probationary period of two months. A permanent position will possibly be available after 1 year, for which we then invite you to apply. The preferable starting date of the appointment is in August 2024. The employment contract is for 32-38 hours a week.
Your salary, depending on your relevant experience on commencement of the employment contract, ranges between €4,332 to €5,929 gross per month on the basis of a full working week of 38 hours. This sum does not include the 8% holiday allowance and the 8.3% year-end allowance. The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU) is applicable.

The Department of Public International and European Law is one of the six academic departments of the Amsterdam Law School. The +/- 50 department members teach three courses in the Bachelor, as well as two minors and the Master International and European public law, split into four tracks. Research in the department is organized in two research centres, the Amsterdam Center for International Law (ACIL) and the Amsterdam Centre for European Law (ACELG), both of which provide a lively intellectual environment.
