Job description
Are you the driven Application Administrator or DevOps Engineer who wants to maintain Open Source applications at Utrecht University? And do you want to work on the further development of these applications that researchers, teachers and students use every day? Then we would like you to apply immediately.
The two main applications are Yoda and Moodle. Yoda is a Research Data Management platform developed by Utrecht University. It makes it possible for researchers to share, publish and preserve large amounts of research data during research projects. Moodle is one of the learning management systems (LMS) for education. You will work at the intersection of technical and functional application management and will be responsible for maintaining these systems that help improve research and education.
Your tasks:
  •      You will ensure high availability of the Yoda and Moodle platforms, including:
    • monitoring and managing various application environments built on top of Linux, iRODS, Apache and PostgreSQL;
    • improving the scalability of the infrastructure for large data sets and large numbers of users;
    • developing scripts to extensively automate management and maintenance;
    • continuously improving the OTAP environments;
    • creating and maintaining system documentation;
  •      You will prepare and carry out upgrades.
  •      You will work together with software developers and you are the linking pin between infrastructure suppliers, both internal and external.
  •      You will actively think about the further development of our systems.

Qualifications
Your competences:
  •      You have completed a higher or university education, or have a comparable working and thinking level.
  •      You have experience as a technical application manager, system administrator or DevOps engineer.
  •      You preferably have experience with research data management and/or digital research infrastructures.
  •      You have extensive experience with Linux, scripting (shell, Ansible) and version management (Git).
  •      You have knowledge on PostgreSQL or a similar database.
  •      You have extensive experience with Python and PHP.
  •      Experience with iRODS and object storage is an advantage.

  • a position (1.0 FTE) for 1 year, with possibility to extend in case of a good performance, an indefinite employment is one of the possibilities;
  • a full-time gross salary between €3,377 and €4,332 in scale 9 max. row 6 of the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities (CAO);
  • 8% holiday bonus and 8.3% end-of-year bonus;
  • a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave, and flexible employment conditions based on the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities.
