I. Project Orientation
The Science Fund Program for Distinguished Young Scholars of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (Overseas) (hereinafter referred to as Science Fund Program for Distinguished Young Scholars (Overseas)) aims to attract and encourage outstanding young scholars from overseas (including non-Chinese foreign talents) who have achieved notable accomplishments in natural sciences, engineering, and technology to return to China for work. Science Fund Program for Distinguished Young Scholars (Overseas) allows them to independently choose research directions for innovative exploration. Its goal is to promote the rapid growth of young scientific and technological talents, nurture a group of outstanding academic leaders expected to enter the forefront of global science and technology, and contribute to the construction of a technologically strong nation.
II. Application Requirements
1. Adherence to the laws and regulations of the People's Republic of China, possessing good scientific ethics, and conscientiously practicing the spirit of scientists in the new era;
2. Born on or after January 1, 1984;
3. Hold a doctoral degree;
4. Main research direction in natural sciences, engineering technology, etc.
5. Normally, the candidate should hold a formal teaching or research position at overseas universities, research institutions, or corporate research and development organizations, with continuous work experience of more than 36 months. For those who have obtained a doctoral degree overseas with outstanding achievements, the work experience requirement may be appropriately relaxed;
6. Demonstrate research or technical achievements recognized by peers and possess the potential to become a leading figure or outstanding talent in the academic field;
7. If the applicant has not yet returned to work full-time in China or returned after January 1, 2023, after receiving the funding notification, the applicant currently employed abroad must resign from their overseas position and commit to working full-time in China for a minimum of 3 years.
III. Support and Benefits
1. Appointment as a professor with identity of a public institution personnel;
2. Eligibility for doctoral student enrollment with an adequate number of doctoral student enrollment quotas;
3. Guarantee of at least 2 postdoctoral recruitment quotas annually;
4. The national government provides research funding ranging from 1 to 3 million RMB, and our university provides accompanying research funding of no less than 2 million RMB；
5. Annual salary of 800,000 RMB, with additional research performance incentives;

V. Overview of Northeastern University
Northeastern University (NEU) was founded on April 26, 1923. It is situated in Shenyang, the central city of Northeast China, with a branch campus in Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province. It is one of the first batch of China’s “211 Project”and “985 Project”key construction universities. In 2017, it entered the first round of first-class universities, and in 2022, it entered the new round of "double first-class" universities. NEU has formed a multi-disciplinary system which covers philosophy, economics, law, pedagogy, literature, science, engineering, management, art and other disciplines. The university has 2 national "double first-class" construction disciplines, 3 primary national key disciplines, 4 secondary national key disciplines and 1 national key (nurture) discipline, covering 16 secondary disciplines in total. There are 80 undergraduate programs, including 15 national specialty programs, 39 national first-class undergraduate programs, 24 first-level disciplines, 121 second-level disciplines, 38 first-level master programs, 185 second-level disciplines, 5 engineering doctoral programs, 15 master's degree programs, and 19 post-doctoral research stations. The university has 4 innovation groups of the National Natural Science Foundation and 3 innovation teams of the Ministry of Education. 126 people were selected by the national Leading talent project, 84 people were selected by the national Young talent project. It has 4 innovation groups of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. The university has more than 100 research institutions, including 12 national science and technology bases such as national key laboratories, national engineering (technology) research centers. It has more than 100 research institutes including 2 national engineering laboratories, 1 national collaborative innovation centers and 4 collaborative innovation centers of Liaoning province. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, the university has undertaken 9,000 science and technology projects and won more than 320 scientific and technological awards at provincial and above, including 14 national science and technology awards such as the first prize and the second prize of National Natural Science and 78 provincial and ministerial first prizes; 6,131 national patents, including 5,726 invention patents; and 36,758 papers included in the three major searches. Six new national teaching achievement awards have been added, 39 national first-class undergraduate courses have been approved, and 7 new engineering research and practice projects have been approved by the Ministry of Education. The University has been approved 3 new liberal arts research and reform practice projects of the Ministry of Education, won the first National Teaching Material Construction Award (higher education category) (one textbook), and was approved as the first school of Future Technology by the Ministry of Education.
