Your Role...

The COSA institute at University of Luxembourg is seeking to appoint one position as Research Assistant (M.Sc./M.Ed./M.A.) in project on Parenting and Adolescent Development (Fields: Educational Psychology and Developmental Psychology) within the UPICAS project (Principal Investigator: Dr. Ziwen Teuber) hosted in the Cognitive Science and Assessment (COSA) institute (Head: Prof. Dr. Anna Kornadt). The post will be available to start at 1st of October 2024 (negotiable).

The UPICAS project ("Unpacking Parental Involvement in Challenging Achievement Situations") aims to improve parental involvement in challenging achievement situations, such as when an adolescent is struggling academically. Policymakers worldwide recognize parental involvement as a crucial factor in a country's education system. However, little research has been conducted on how parents react emotionally in such situations and how their reactions affect their involvement and their child's academic success. The project will be conducted in two substudies involving early adolescent students and their parents, using a panel design and a randomized waitlist control trial. The project aims to a better understanding of parental involvement and provide evidence-based parental involvement training programs tailored for general parent populations in Luxembourg.

  • Developing and implementing a parental involvement training program
  • Data collection and management at participating schools in Luxembourg
  • Quantitative data analysis
  • Communication with partners and independent instruction of student assistants
  • Administrative responsibilities within the project and the research group
  • Supporting publications (in English-speaking peer-reviewed journals and at scientific conferences)

What we expect from you…

  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in Psychology, Educational Science, or a related field
  • Good knowledge of and interest in quantitative methods; willingness to learn advanced quantitative methods
  • Willingness to travel internationally and excellent English skills in speech and writing. German or French language skills will be considered an advantage(not mandatory)
  • Ability to work independently and under strict timelines, communication and cooperation skills, administrative skills
  • Enthusiasm and enjoyment for working with adolescents and parents, strong personal commitment
  • Experience with educational assessment and conducting longitudinal or experimental studies will be considered an advantage
  • You are a team player
