Following the adoption of the joint proposal between Tohoku University and the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology was selected for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's “World Premier International Research Center Initiative (WPI)”, in this recruitment, we are looking for one expert to work at the Tohoku University Advanced Institute for Marine Ecosystem Change (WPI-AIMEC), which is scheduled to be established on January 1, 2024.

The WPI-AIMEC is an international research center jointly established by Tohoku University and the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) to conduct research on the response and adaptation mechanisms of marine ecosystems to climate and environmental changes in the Earth system. The center aims to create a new academic field of “Ocean-Ecosystem Change Systematics” that integrates ocean physics, ecology, and mathematical and data sciences; to deepen our understanding of the interconnectivity, stability, and adaptability that are important for maintaining the ocean and ecosystems; to improve the predictability of such changes; and to develop the next generation of leaders in the field, thereby contributing to the advancement of this academic field and the regeneration and restoration of the ocean and ecosystems.

[Work content and job description]
[Research Evaluaiton and Analysis]
(1) Evaluation and analysis of research results at WPI-AIMEC (WPI Advanced Institute for Marine Ecosystem Studies), Tohoku University
(2) Promotion of cross-disciplinary research and establishment of domestic and international collaborations based on evaluation and analysis of research results
(3) Planning for the establishment of a system for implementing cross-disciplinary research related to WPI-AIMEC, and related work such as making proposals to funding organizations
(4) Support for activities to improve the quality of research and education based on the evaluation and analysis of research results
(5) Support for the preparation of various applications and reports based on the evaluation and analysis of research results
If hired, a candidate will be required to perform the above duties on a full-time basis. (For example, the applicant cannot engage in research activities as a principal investigator of a Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research or in educational activities such as lectures for students.)
